After 14 races, the Woking based team have yet to score a podium place this season and have achieved only a best finish of fifth, by Jenson Button, at the Chinese Grand Prix in April.
Apparently Team Principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has conducted a thorough review of McLaren's personnel and would announce some big-name signings to its technical team before the end of the 2013 season.
"This year we can't be satisfied with where we are, so we've been recruiting in the technical team, strengthening that quite a lot, and there have been quite a few new starters this year. There are some yet to be announced who will be headline-grabbing when they are announced. So there are things going on, clearly. We've got to look at ourselves as a team from the top of the management all the way through to the technical team to make sure we can return to winning ways as quickly as possible," Whitmarsh told reporters earlier this week.
Although McLaren have displayed strong recoveries from poor starts in the past, Whitmarsh attributes diverted focus to next year's power unit and technical regulations to be the problem for the weak performance this season.
After the departure of Hamilton, McLaren is set to lose their main sponsor, Vodafone, at the end of the season after the telecommunications giant announced a termination of sponsorship at the eve of the Australian Grand Prix earlier in the year. The deal saw McLaren earning £40 million (S$79.8 million) annually in return for granting the mobile phone network title sponsorship. A replacement sponsor will be announced on the 2nd of December.
After one of the worst seasons in history, McLaren has promised to announce some 'headline-grabbing' additions to its technical team for its 2014 season in a bid to revive its former glory.
