Reports have emerged that Audi has decided to cancel their plans of producing the A2.

Prior to this report, Audi was planning to put the model into production in 2015, with an aim to rival the BMW's i3. Inspired by its predecessor's aluminum spaceframe, the new model was supposed to be sold as a plug-in hybrid and an EV. Sources within Audi said "lessons learnt from the new A2 project" will be implemented in upcoming models.

To re-cap, the A2 concept shown in 2011 had a kerb weight of only 1,150kg and came with a lithium-ion battery pack. An electric motor provided an output of 116bhp and 270Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h run took under 9.3 seconds with a top speed of 150km/h. Also, the A2 Concept is able to provide a maximum range of 200km.

The cancellation of a new A2 may be a dismay, but if sources are to be trusted, perhaps they will integrate plus points of the A2 into a newer model.
