Parking enforcement officers can now use their hand-held devices to take photos of parking offences.
These new devices with photo taking capability were used by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) since last month. Officers will now snap photos of illegally parked vehicles before issuing a summon. The device also has an in-built Global Positioning System to record the exact location where the summon is issued.
Besides the LTA, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) also uses a similar device to record parking offences.
The public has divided views on the new system. The Sunday Times reported that motorists complained about the lack of parking spaces at some places, which was quoted by many as the main reason behind illegal parking.
Although the Housing Development Board has yet to implement such a device, a spokesman said a similar system is in the pipelines and will roll out in early 2015.
