Power cables replaced at two additional circle line MRT stations

Besides a 10 minute travel time delay - cable replacement works at Botanic Gardens and Farrer Road MRT stations along the Circle Line were carried out without a hitch - reported The Straits Times. The cable replacement programme is a result of a number of infamous breakdowns caused by faulty power cables on the rather new Circle Line in recent years.

The replacement programme began in January this year and will replace more than 1,000 power cables, measuring 120km in total, with new ones that are more resistant to water seepage.

The $15 million programme aims to improve service reliability and prevent power outages. A SMRT spokesperson has revealed more such works are expected to occur at other stations next month and plans to replace power cables at all 30 stations by the end of the year are on track. 

Additionally, a cracked rail which caused a 30 minute delay on the north-bound track between Braddell and Bishan stations on Saturday was replaced post operational hours by Sunday morning.
