Recording performance data of Volkswagen cars

Volkswagen has released its LogBox and Race App performance data logging combo for its top-of-the-line R models and a range of future cars.

Volkswagen (VW) customers can now drive like a racing pro thanks to the Volkswagen Accessories Log Box and the free of charge RaceApp.

Plug the LogBox into a VW's OBD II port and it sends data over BlueTooth to the Race App, measuring variables like acceleration, distance, G-force and engine performance. If you're on a circuit, it uses Google Maps to make a map of the track, and live video in-app can be recorded to match with the data.

The LogBox is available from the VW accessories store for 299 euros (S$480), but the free app is only available in German for now, in the German-language iTunes and Google Play store. The LogBox will be available for R models and a range of further Volkswagen cars.
