Volkswagen will be marking half a century of the GTI at the 24h Nurburgring - which runs from 14 to 17 May 2026 - with the unveiling of the new ID. Polo GTI. This also sees an all-electric model bearing the renowned GTI badge for the first time.
And that's not all that Volkswagen fans can look forward to at the event - just a day after the ID. Polo GTI's premiere at the 24h Nurburgring, three Golf GTI Clubsport 24h cars will also compete in the world-famous endurance.
Sporting an output of 390bhp, the Golf GTI Clubsport 24h has been further enhanced as compared to the previous year. Active gearbox cooling is a new feature that ensures maximum reliability during the race. In addition, the calibration of the engine has been fine-tuned and - with the use of carbon fibre in some components - lighter than before.
Two Golf GTI Clubsport 24h cars - number 50 and 76 - sporting the GTI anniversary design will be entered in the SP4T class of the 24-hour marathon and piloted by a combined eight drivers with racing pedigree and track experience. The third Golf GTI Clubsport 24h - bearing number 10 - will race in the SP3T class and will be piloted by a team of four, including former German national footballer Max Kruse.
In addition, all three Golf GTI Clubsport 24h cars will be prepared and entered by the Max Kruse Racing brand.
Another highlight of the event will be the Golf R 24h show car, which will give a first glimpse of the Volkswagen race car for the 24h race at the Nurburgring in 2027.
