  • Volkswagen Touran is a highly versatile vehicle

The latest and handsome-looking Volkswagen Touran is a highly versatile MPV that gives occupants the best of fun and functionality.

If the Volkswagen Touran has touched the hearts of over 1.9 million people since its launch in 2003, we can't imagine how many more people will opt to purchase this new and improved Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV).

According to the Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for the Development Division, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, he said that the latest compact MPV has the potential in terms of its design and technology to secure itself as the top MPV in Germany.

Despite sporting larger dimensions compared to its predecessor, the handsome-looking Touran weighs 62kg lighter and is, thus, up to 19 percent more fuel efficient.

More relevantly, based on the highly adaptable MQB platform, space has improved significantly as well, thanks to a 130mm increase in body length and a longer wheelbase of 113mm. Boot space (for the five-seater Touran) has also seen a growth to 743 litres. Knock the seats down and it'll increase by a couple of notches to form a load area of 1,980 litres.

Putting such generosity into perspective, the Touran is a vehicle that's well-suited for younger couples and families alike, where necessary trips to Ikea could be made fairly often. The fact that it looks bolder, sharper and made even safer further helps in this very aspect, too. On the inside, materials used are now a notch higher, with piano-black surfaces, comfortable seats and an intuitive infotainment system that will keep passengers entertained.

Mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox, the 1.4-litre TSI Volkswagen Touran is expected to arrive in Singapore early next year.
