Consumer Reviews

Drove it up to KL. Not much power for the older version(2004). Fuel consumption cant even match with avante.

Went shopping for the new Mazda3 model but ended up with the 2008 Mazda3 SP.
Simply do not like the cheesy smiling face at the front of the new model, something too odd for a car of power and strength.
Really love my Mazda 3. Fuel consumption wise is very reasonable imho, at most just 20-30 bucks/mth more compared to cars with top-notch FC. For the power and pickup it brings, it's worth it.
Overall well-designed sports sedan to own, feels luxurious unlike other jap cars of around the same price which are boring to have and look cheapo

Drove to NSH recently. Juz wanted to feel and get to know the car much better. Really enjoyed driving this car over a long distance. Car felt heavy and grips the road well. You dont really get lethargic. At 140km/h you can still hear the music without difficulty. (Previous ride @ 130-140km/h better switch off the music because you can hardly hear. Only engine sound!). Even the children sleeps quite easily as the ride is comfortable. Note: Children gives honest feedbacks!
The steptronic gearbox also provides smooth transmission and engine revs easily without much noise and stress. FC: When fuel gauge light gets illuminated the odometer reads 570km. This is about 45 litres. Full tank is 55litres. That works out to be approx. 12.6km/l. (Not bad! 90% h/way & 10% urban).
Only wish that this car has a cruise control and sunroof and maybe a supercharger just like the VW Jetta 1.4. Then I will probably drive it for a full 10years.
Verdict: Well worth the price for a 1.6 ride and yes you get people looking at your ride when you stop over at the NSH R&R!

Overall a stunning car that would capture the eyes of many from afar. FC is still reasonable, not as bad as I heard and expected. A dream car to own.

This car may look deceivingly powerful, but too bad its not at all. I've been driving this car for almost 6 mths and can start to hear irritating squeaks whenever i go over humps.
Its lack of response made my journey a painful experience, especially in the midst of overtaking.

Looking into its price, I definately won't consider it. 1.6 to 1.6 cc, can't beat the reliability of Civic. Price wise, can't compare to Kia 50K - 17" Rim, Traction control, nor continental Mergane, Altis or Lancer EX though both have soundproofing problem. For 2.0, a better buy on Camry-a Luxury Car just adding 5k more to a SM car.
I've own a M3 before, noise, fuel & power all to my disappointment after 6 months.
This model could've a power of 120 above not 107 being the latest series. Shall wait for New Civic to compare.

First, given the price, I definately won't consider. Secondly, power is not good. Looks Ok sporty but lack the ingredients to be sporty.
50K of a Kia to 80K of Mazda 3.

The exterior outlook definitely attact my interest to own this new car. Very attractive. however the price is too expensive. 1.6 sedan and 2.0 sedan only having $6K different, if you plan to get this new model, i suggest you go for 2.0 instead of 1.6 sedan.

First of all, this car has a very nice exterior and interior. The quality of the interior is good too. Everything is nicely screwed and laid out. Buttons are within reach of driver.
However that's about the end of it. The moment you shift to D and release the foot brake, you will immediately feel the whole weight of the car. Step on the throttle the 1.6 engine struggles itself to move the car. Especially when the car is loaded with 4 person or more. It becomes so draggy that the driver gets tired out faster than normal.

I bought a Mazda 3 Luxury and I've hated it from the word go. The reason I got it was because the Toyota Corolla looked awful and the Honda Civic was rather beyond my budget.
Sure it looks great from the outside. The insides are rather plush too. But the moment you put your foot on the accelerator, the thing hardly budges. It tiptoes forward as if the weight of the world was upon you. From the corner of your eye you see the approaching traffic and you put your foot down, the engine then revs like there's no tomorrow and then the car begins to think about moving.
Ok, given it's a 1.6L car but still, its lack of acceleration must be considered rather dangerous.
I've often had to put my foot down and rev the engine just to make this ton of a car move.... this has made my wife think I'm a bad driver, and I don't blame her. Getting angry with the car has made me a bad driver on the road!
I've told all of my friends to stay well clear of this car if they wanted to spare themselves a lot of grief.
If you want better consumption, get a Corolla. If you want adequate acceleration, get a Civic... if you wanna drive with a big fat grin on your face, get the GT-R...

I have to give her highest point.
Perfect design, Comfortable feature, most exellence performance. I appreciate Mazda. They have done the best with 1.6L engine.
Perfect desin, super big boot, heavy doors, sports feeling. I have to say it is a luxury car. Enjoy such a kind of car, I really cannot complain its slow accelerating and FC. We cannot expect her performance like 2.0L, even 2.4L. And we cannot expect her FC like small and light car. IT IS UNFAIR.
Most impressive, which really shock me, is powerful accelerating after 80km/h, it is not a job of 1.6L.
It is super worth.

On average, it's about 10-13km/l. city/highway. Driven at high speed, it is a lot more stable than many cars I've owned before. According to my friend driving a Civic 2.0l, this car have the power to match it especially on the NS highway.
City driving is a bit sedated due to low rpm, once above 80kmh, it is a breeze to drive and very enjoyable.
Hope the new Mazda3 will be better than this one in every dept. especially engine delivery and noise.
Cheap maintanience as car is very efficiently built, no problems at all. It requires only regular servicing.

My father in law, owns this Mazda 3 SP. Borrowed his car for a spin quite a number of times.
I find that, this car lacks power in picking up on the highway, and the fuel consumption is so bad.
Took over the car, just after full tank re-fuel, took it from Hougang to the city, taking the CTE route. Fuel gauge dropped 2 markings. Woah!
Super siong.
Although I seriously admit that driving a Mazda 3 is really stylish. But style VS fuel consumption, not worth the $$.
Furthermore, its only 4-speed auto. I wonder why no 5th speed for cruising the highway.
But perhaps the new Mazda 3 coming out soon, would be a better car to buy.

The Mazda 3 was certainly a significant improvement over my previous car, a Honda City, when I bought it almost 3 years ago. The best thing about it was that it looked great and virtually no one had any negative comments about its appearance. However, with the dip in the price of the car over the years, the Mazda 3 has become commonplace and lost its "wow" factor somewhat.
The ride is surprisingly smooth, thanks to a suspension that is usually found in 2-litre cars and above. Unless its fully laden, it goes over humps pretty well.
However, one of the main grouses I have with the car is it's poor acceleration. This was apparent from the beginning and is probably attributable to the weight of the car.
Another effect of the weight of the car is its moderately heavy fuel consumption. Normal driving gives me approx 10km/L (I tracked this over an entire year) and this figure doesn't vary with the grade of petrol used.
The dealers will probably say that safety comes at a price but you decide whether the price is worth it.

Mazda 3 will certainly be in most of car buyer shortlist because of it design including me despite many unfavourable comments by my mazda 3 driving friends. Test drive both my friends car and the agent test drive car. Car handling is poor when changing lanes. By quick stepping the accelerator it will drop one gear, good for overtaking, but you will realise the car is underpowered and engine noise become unbearable. Bottomline the car is only good to look at.
