A good car with decent power and handling characteristics. Drove a A4 1.8 TSFI, acceleration though not class leading now, it can be felt especially if you dial to sports setting. Steering feels vague however is direct.

Test drove the A4 recently, the handling of the car is nice. Pick up is good and a very stable and sturdy feel.

Had to test the A4 myself after hearing so many things about it. Eliminated it not because it is a bad car but there were just nothing special for me to overcome the many bad reviews. I was not disappointed at all, just not motivated.

If you buy a car for looks, no doubt this will be a pretty good choice, however the 1.8T DSG is a disaster. I believe I do not have to speak more since many Volkswagon sharing the same gearbox has gear judder issues and many had to change gearbox within warranty period. I hope Audi and Volkswagon can seriously review to use a more robust gearbox from ZF, just like Maserati, they have issue with their semi automatic and now all their new models are ZF 8 speed, similar to BMW. I would say leave the gearbox to the gearbox expert like ZF.
With issues even within warranty period, it will cost a bomb to replace the gearbox once warranty is out.

Audi design is distinctly Audi. There is a different range of engine variants available. 1.8T front wheel drive. 2.0T FWD and quattro version. Plus the 3.0 V6 and then the RS4 V8 with quattro. There is no better handling car on the road than a an Audi with quattro. You have to evaluate all the different variants as they all have their own unique qualities in terms of performance and specification.

After test drive BMW 316 & C180 and decided to buy Audi A4. The interior design and quality feel much better than other 2 models. Powerful response from engine and comfortable & quiet driving experience.

I think one of the biggest mistakes i made in car purchase is buying two germans, replacing two japanese.
i wrote about VW golf in another review so i wont talk about it.
The audi a4. on the roads, one of the most distinctive looking car. awesome LED daytime lights. the exterior design is old, but still uniquely audi.
the handling is so-so. too light when in normal mode, too heavy in Dynamic.
reliability is terrible. i had to change some faulty valve when i went in for my first service. my leather steering had cracks on it.
the start stop system makes weird noises when restarting
the car has thumping sounds when on its bumpy roads.
sigh

The new Audi A4 is the first in a new generation of Audis (A5, R8 included) that have learned how to ride. A wonderfully engineered bit of kit that still manages to be just that little bit boring. So, so much better than Audi A4s of old, the new car is quiet, comfy and composed - especially on long motorway hauls. There's so much more space than the old model the new A4 feels like it comes from the class above. Are a nice pair of slacks cool? No. Do they do the job? Yes. The new A4 is a nice pair of slacks. As with all Audi product recently the quality is high and the finish superlative. A supremely competent car, the A4 never loses composure and loves tasty back roads. Both the front-wheel drive and Quattro variants shade towards understeer, but thanks to excellent body control and a well-sorted chassis you can really crack on. Not quite a BMW 3-series though.Plenty of room in the new A4 - the boot is a generous 480 litres and the cabin space is really very good - even in the back. There are also front, side and curtain airbags as standard.

Car has a quality feel from the time you open the door to get in to when your driving on the highway. Personally, I've never found fault with the roominess of the A4 and this one is equally comfortable, with plenty of space for three adults in the back. Also a great looks and ergonomics, good performance and fuel economy.

Did a test drive. Pretty impressive ride comfort, road bumps were absorbed nicely, handling is good except some lack in road feel on the steering but I'm used to it on my previous Toyotas which have light steering too.
Very good compromise between handling and comfort, two things that go separate ways all the time. Cars of similar class which are touted to have better handling suffers from a harsher ride. Can't have best of both worlds due to the existance of gravity and law of physics. What I look for is a nice blend.
Power deliver is linear, except for that slight split second delay when moving off from stationary, but nothing that a stage 1 ECU flash cannot solve. Dynamic mode gives much better throttle response and power on the move. Engine doesn't sound rough when pushed.
I like the cool interior for sure. One of the nicest ones I've come across so far. Seats are also very comfortable. Overall, a very pleasant drive for me. Now, time to look out for good deals and promotions.

Been driving this car for a week and it is really a solid car. Good equipment offered and high tech. Very stable and good handling all around. Looking forward to drive it again after work!

Hmm, its really hard to use any words to describe the performance of this car...what can I say about this car is after so many years...Audi is still "Vorsprung"ing! WooW!!!
Remember when I was a child, the A4 is already one of my dream car...and now the dream finally come true. After driving it, the perfect handling of the car really really impress me alot. The engine is quiet and the acceleration is extremely smooth. Well yeah...although it is not as "aggressive" as my previous Swift Sport when injected the power, look at the size and CAT of the car and u'll understand. It's a luxury sedan, comfort, safety and stable are the priorities, not sport.
Interior design is great, there are alot of functions and buttons that will need time to figure out...but it should not be a problem for everyone, cos its user friendly. The seats are nice and trendy (elegant) as well. Its extremely comfortable inside the car. NO DOUBT!!!
Exterior design is marvelous!!! NO DOUBT again the LED trend is a hot thing now...see how many cars are trying to learn from Audi and u'll know. So when someone said is outdated...thank you very much but you are absolutely WRONG. =)
If you are looking for a long term car to stay with...regardless of performance or design...this is your choice.

The car was a hit when released. But by now, the LED shock is over, hence, the car now looked of age. Agree!!! Time for facelift.

For someone who describe a competent car as for someone with "fat backsides" and with "dead nerves" is really too much. I wonder whether he could afford an audi in the first place to begin with! I had driven an Alfa for 3 years and I do know what is a competent car or otherwise.

After all these years, Audi still can't get it right. I like Audis - the design, the interior, the cool, expensive German-engineered look. But I still can't get myself to buy an Audi as the only one that handles well (that I have driven so far) is the TT. And that's not even a real Audi. It's based on the Golf GTI platform.
The A4 1.8T simply can't hack it! The ride is terrible and the handling is terrible. It's quite an achievement to get a car that rides and handles badly at the same time. The brakes are still oversensitive like Audis of old. The steering weight is so inconsistent and not in sync with everything else. It's like the steering, brakes, suspension and engine/gearbox are all working independently of each other.
After all the money spent moving the engine back 100mm and the relocating the steering rack, Audi still can't get it right! Audi should just poach Mercedes chassis engineers. Yes, the C class might be a bit Ah Pek but it is the best handling and riding car in its class. Better than the 3 series in fact. If the Ah Pek can do it, why can't Audi?
The A5 2.0T quattro handles better but it is still wooden and uninspiring. I have given up on Audi. Waiting for 2011 when the new 3 series and Alfa Romeo Giulia make their debut. I just hope the 3 series is as good looking as the Alfa and the Alfa rides and handles like a 3 series. As for Audi... seriously, guys, you got to have really fat backsides and 50% dead nerves to even say that it HANDLES with anything approaching acceptable levels of competence.
