Thought to give it a shot during car shopping. It is by no means a bad car ... But it is extremely boring. Just did not get any feel on the car ... Nothing was bad but nothing was great.

Review done on 1.8T model.
Gotten this car as a replacement for the Jetta at discounted price.
improvement of ride comfort can be felt from the moment the car moves off.
VW threw in loads of features into local this unit.
Nice family car to ferry passengers in comfort over long distance.

Test driven the 1.8L sometime back (can search in my past review for this model).
Sometime back, went to see this 1.4L baby....it caught me by surprised that not just the features are captivating, the engine is also too...
The drive was AWESOME...a 1.4L with superb performance in strength where you can literately forgo getting the bigger capacity (save you on road tax and COE as this belongs to CAT A car).
Interior was nice, features like PARK ASSIST is something new to me which if I can't remember if the earlier 1.8L I tried does come with it...but it was accurate and good to use for parking.
Its interior is definately comparable to an others which features too and comes with the kick boot open and its good to have like electronic parking brakes, etc...
The drive was fantastic, despite many say DSG having issues on and off....but I do find the POWER in it which runs like any other 2.0L on the road.
Overtaking was soooo easy, which initially when I tried on the test roads, I slam on the throttle, it roars to life and swiftly overtakes the 2 x cars in front along the route.
Cornering had no issues too, although cannot compare to its younger sibling, the Golf which is designed to be.
Additionals like sunroof or white xenon lights are optional but costs are much more affordable, comparing to brands like Merz, BMW or even Audi.
This is a good alternative to Lexus GS series, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6s or even Mercedes E class in terms of price, capacity (which saves you on fuel and taxes, not just COE alone) and many others which serves as a spacious, comfortable and good looking family and business cars out there.

Sold off my 523i for this machine. Although I must agree that the drive feel is different, for the price, I thought it was good. Whatever features the 523 has, the Passat has them as well (oh well, less the auto folding mirror). Front ventilation zircon cooling seats (both driver and front passenger) is awesome in hot days.
A real fuel saver (city driving of 11km / liter) and combined (13-15km/liter). What else can we ask for? 1390cc engine supporting a size equivalent to a 523i (only 5cm shorter). With the soaring fuel prices, this car is one of the answer for the need of big cars with small cars' consumption.

Car was good at the initial stage but it started giving problems mostly of an electronic nature. The keyless entry didn't work. The hand brake gave problems intermittently (apparently due to sensor issues) and the car had to be sent back a number of times for software resetting or reprogramming.
Recently the car got into an accident. It's still in the workshop after more than 4 weeks. When we call in for updates no one in the repairs or service section answers the phone. We had to call through the car sales section to get someone's attention. Subsequently we were told the delay was due to tests. The spare parts have only just arrived and it will take another 3-4 weeks before we get the car back.

Never would I have imagine the Passat to house a 1.4L TSI engine where most of its competitors are downsizing to a 1.6L turbocharged engine. That's good news in terms of road tax! Over $600 per annum :)
Now, VW has stretched options for potential buyers.
One thing that I can't come to terms with is the exterior & uniformed interior looks... (the French, Italians & now Koreans seems to fare better than the German marque ",)

If you ever want to buy a VW, please consider seriously as the after-sales services is horrendous! If you book a service date, you must book at least 2 months in advance! They sell cars fast but their after-sales service is one of the worst in the industry, if not the worst! And as drivers, after-sales service is important!
I bought a Passat and have visited the service centre at least on 3 separate occasions. Why? To top up engine oil when I clocked approximately 5,000km, then 12,000km and finally 15,000km (which was the mileage for the first servicing but due to the long queue, I have to wait another month before I can service the car!) The visits were over a period of 9 months!
And talking about the VW's GPS, it's a joke! You will be better off with a Garmin GPS! Theirs are totally outdated and if you want an update, I was informed that I got to fork out over SGD1,000 for the software! Wondering if they are aware that a Garmin GPS cost a quarter of that and the updates are free!
Do not fall for the voice-recognition feature... Just like iphone SIRI, you will feel like an idiot after trying it out!
Let me share a joke with you! I was down at the VW Centre to top up the engine oil and when done, the service person helped reversed the car to get out. The reverse camera, place in the boot VW emblem will then flipped up and guess what? An enthusiastic sales person actually tried to "warn" me that the boot is not closed and wanted to flip the emblem down! Talk about professionalism and product knowledge!

Just bought this car last month, at first the car were running smoothly and you won't notice a jerky transmission right until the odometer past 1000 km. the transmission began to jerk after you accelerate the car from static as if the engine is dying off. I guess, it is because of Autohold function and i tried to switch off the Autohold function, but to no avail, the transmission still jerk. However, with 1.8 engine, the engine is powerful and gear change is very responsive. Thanks to DSG gearbox. If they can rectify the problem with the problem earlier, then only they can build people's car.

I have always wanted to drive a classy European sedan and when I heard of the new Passat, the seventh generation since 1973, I must give it a test drive .
With a long-standing good reputation for Volkswagen car that is enjoyable to drive, I have high expectation for this new Volkswagen Passat. What is new for this Passat is ,this executive sedan has been fully redesigned. Highlights include a roomier interior and a newly available turbodiesel engine.
I immediately notice that this new Passat is bigger than the model it replaces. Volkswagen added more back seat legroom and test drivers will be very happy with the increased space inside the new Passat. I find that the legroom is so plentiful that makes driving even more comfortable.
I love the Passat's high-quality interior and intuitive control layout. The fit and finish on my test car were superb, and all the surfaces I touch looked and felt good.Overall, the Passat is loaded with upscale cues throughout. I liked the feel and thickness of the leather-wrapped steering wheel and the use of soft-touch material in all the right places.
I like the fact that the Passat has three engines and four transmissions to choose from. The Passat's multiple combinations should satisfy most drivers. Overall, the Passat drives like a German-engineered car, and its optional fuel-efficient diesel engine is a rare offering in the class.
The diesel engine can be combined with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed DSG automatic transmission with manual mode. I like how quickly and smoothly this dual-clutch transmission shifts through the gears. This Passat has really good pickup from a stop and enough gumption for worry-free highway merging.
Overall, this Passat provides a ride that is more comfortable rather than firm, I personally think the brakes are strong. One of the Passat's most impressive qualities is its forgiving suspension, which translates into comfortable highway cruising. It's a departure from the previous-generation Passat's firmer ride, but the move makes a lot of sense for this car class, where comfort is more important than sportiness.
The Passat is definitely an engaging sedan to drive thanks to its well-sorted suspension tuning, precise steering feel and strong brakes.
This Volkswagen Passat is the best car I have ever driven.
2 thumbs-up !

Driven the car & find there is alittle too much hype. Besides the ride comfort, good engine and trans the rest of the car is very mediorcal.
The engine after abt 500Kms gives a louder and louder hum.
The transmission then began to jerk more and more.
Send to workshop and was told transmission needs to be replaced! at abt 1000+Kms.
I gave up and really question it's realibility. I have since made a big lost and sold the car.

Tested the new Passat a week ago. The ride was smooth, quiet and powerful depite only 1.8L. Lots of features but might not be able to utilise everything.Having tested drive only a short distance, i felt that the car was pretty solid and stable(probably car weight) but you are still able to acceralate fast at ease.Classified as luxury sedan, It might loose to to the interior of Teana but this will be compromised if you are looking for refinement of engine performance.Overall, a good car with a bit more ex....

Tried the facelifted 1.8L some days back.
Comparing to the previous generations whom I hear are drinkers, this certainly shun off this thought of mine away.
The looks certainly gives you the mature executive feel, only that VW need to shape up a little as its kinda squarish. Think VW need to shapen it up on its next facelift...:)
In it have push start button and reverse camera (some may find it not useful) which these are finally available, comparing to their compeitior continential brands that already had them for a while.
On the road, its smooth drive, with a 1.8L engine in it but it seems to give the power of a 2.0L.
Thanks to the wonderful DSG gearbox that changes gear swiftly.
Tried overtaking and its pretty responsive, judging from this size of engine and power.
Overall its a executive look car to get where you may wanna consider it as a symbol of maturity and executive sense of look.
