Land Rover Discovery Sport

Owned a LR Disc Sport for close to 5 yrs, with non-stop quality/reliability issues:

Year 1: 1 x change of air-cond compressor, software crashed and flat battery (which main dealer workshop did not explain why such pre-mature failures)

Year 2: engine failure ( canter shaft replaced), suspension cringing issues and screeching when reversing (unresolved despite checks by main dealer workshop)

Year 3: 1x change of air-compressor again and battery flat again.

Year 4: engine failure (canter shaft issue replacement again), brakes pipe burst (thankfully was detected early by my own mechanics), radiator reservoir replaced due to leak and wiper pipe burst.

To add to the above, the after sales workshop support of the main dealer was very bad despite it posh Leng Kee Road showroom with associated Jaguar & etc. Incumbent reversing screeching isuue, door squeaking issue when opening , suspension cranking issue were never resolved. Battery low voltage not detected during routine mileage services but battery went flat less than 2 weeks later. When asked about the engine failure, compressor failure and software crashed , were told sometimes these happened. However, seriously not when the car is only 1-2 years?! A typical marketing tactic on "Look-sexy " But actually missing the core of reliability, which is crucial for safety, comfort and ownership continuity. Will strongly not recommend! Glad to have replaced my LR with non-JLR...Will only consider if reliability and after-sales are greatly improved. Warranty period could not cover the extremely poor reliability and after-sales service.

Been driving it for 2 years and it was with the old ford engine . I have drove the new Ingenium engine too in Australia for 2 weeks which is of not much difference.

It has below-average fuel economy and uninspired handling. Part of the reason is the transmission, which sometimes features poorly-timed shifts.

Was attracted to its look and 7 seater option but really disappointed on the reliability ! Been in and out of the workshop umpteen times for minor to major issues till i had to demand for courtesy car during the repair period's .

So decided to sell it off last month at a huge lost. The re-sales value and demand is certainly worse off compare to other luxury brands.

The test drive was main reason why we passed on this. The power delivery was pretty disappointing and the transition was not smooth. Perhaps the test car was not tuned properly but it was enough reason to pass on it. The interior and exterior design is simple but slightly on the boring side. The technology is also a bit dated. For the price, there is simply too much competition for a compact to mid size suv.

Moving forward from the Freelander, Land Rover's Discovery Sport is one handsome looking car. It is not only form over function with the Discover Sport. Even though I did not get to test its off-road abilities, the car was a delight to drive on the road. It's 5 + 2 seating arrange allows for comfortable family trips and huge boot spaces when the last two seats are folded down. The Discovery Sport delivers sufficient power and also surprisingly good handling for a car of its size. I can foresee that it will definitely be a hit with Land Rover customers.

Test drove this new chap last weekend for a friend who is keen on getting.

Looks....No more traditional boxy style and comes now is nice curvy looks with much sense of sportiness in this.

Interior is a definite luxury Land Rover style which comes with all the necessity where both sides have electric seats (no memory ones unless is HSE). Gear knob pops up same like Jaguar (same family produce) and the layout is excellent. Legroom is good and sits comfortably for 5 with the +2 for additional passengers but have to sacrifice some boot space.

Features and gadgets are adequate too, GPS included, dual or tri zone aircon system, good sound system (think is Meriden), Bi-Xenon full LED lights, electric tailgate, reverse camera with IPAS as standard.

Others like if you park under hot sun, by press & hold the keyfob unlock, it winds down all windows to dissipate the heat thus still locks the car. And if you accidentally keeps ur keyfob in the car, it doesn't lock n beeps to prompt you so. Great !

Drive mode is ok, same engine as the sister, Evoque, a 2.0L Turbo but it performs better when throttle off due to its much lighter aluminium body frame and the ZF gearbox (can't recall is 8 or 9 speed) where you don't feel a thing during drive.

It comes too with traditional Land Rover all terrain system but only useful when you often drive on uneven roads (not so much for Singapore).

Overall, its a definite eye catcher as the its non boxy anymore and performance is there compare to their other 2.0L ranges and against higher end ones like their 3.0L and above siblings where considerations for fuel consumption have to be think of too.
