Toyota may be Singapore's favourite make but the Mercedes-Benz E-Class continues to be the Republic's top model, reported The Business Times.

From January to June 2014, 844 units of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class were registered, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The evergreen mid-sized saloon was also 2013's top model.

In second position is the Toyota Corolla Altis with 721 registrations. The latest version of the popular Japanese family sedan replaces the BMW 3 Series, which was the runner-up in the first quarter and is now at fourth, behind its bigger BMW stablemate, the 5 Series executive sedan.

A new 'face' in the Top Five at this time of year is the Volkswagen Jetta. It replaces the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which has slipped to number nine, behind the flagship S-Class at eighth.

But Mercedes-Benz is still the top brand in the Top 10 with four models. Other than the E-Class, S-Class and C-Class, the B-Class is positioned at number 10.
