  • A new Suzuki Ignis is set to arrive in the U.K. next year

Whether it's funky or ugly depends on your point of view, but the new Suzuki Ignis takes an unquestionably bold approach to standing out in a crowd.

A new Suzuki Ignis has been confirmed to go on sale in the U.K. in 2017 as a compact crossover. Rather than replacing the ageing Suzuki Jimny, the Ignis will be an all new model in its own right, further expanding the brand's range.

With bold, retro-influenced styling, the new Ignis stems from the iM-4 concept seen at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, sharing its chunky muscular bodywork design and large, high-set headlamps.

Suzuki's economical 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine (as seen in the latest Swift) is likely to be offered, as is a brand new 1.0-litre turbocharged 'Boosterjet' petrol. A mild or full-hybrid version is possible, too.

The Ignis will be available with a choice of two or four-wheel drive, and will take on the Nissan Juke and Fiat Panda 4x4 in the small crossover market.
