A train fault near Tanah Merah station caused a delay on the East-West Line during the evening peak hour on Thursday (30th March).

A stalled train near Tanah Merah station caused services along the East-West Line to be backed up during the evening peak hour on Thursday (30th March). SMRT initially posted on Twitter at 5:57pm warning of a 20-minute delay due to a train fault, but revised its estimate upwards in a second tweet at 6:08pm.

SMRT tweeted again at 6:38pm, saying that the delay had gone back down to 20 minutes. The Straits Times understands a train had stalled on the tracks because of a power-related fault, and it had to be pushed out by another train. Passengers stuck on the pushed train disembarked at Bedok around 6:20pm.

Posts have also surfaced on Facebook and Twitter from commuters complaining of being stuck in an MRT train near Tanah Merah. Train services are still available, SMRT said. Free regular bus services between Tanah Merah and Paya Lebar towards Joo Koon have also been made available.
