BMW is transferring the brand's characteristic core features into the age of locally emissions-free mobility with a host of new electric models.

BMW is transferring the brand's characteristic core features for the age of locally emissions-free mobility.

The i4 will combine BMW's hallmark driving pleasure with emissions-free mobility
The BMW Group's first purely electrically powered model for the premium mid-range, the BMW i4, promises to combine the driving dynamics and functionality of a four-door Gran Coupe with locally emissions-free mobility, heralding a new era of driving pleasure.

The BMW i4 will be manufactured at the company's main plant in Munich. In addition to the sporty, elegant design that is typical of the brand, the BMW i4 is also characterised by impressive performance features.

The electric motor specifically developed for the BMW i4 will deliver a maximum output of around 515bhp, propelling the car from zero to 100km/h in around 4.0 seconds and onto a top speed of more than 200km/h.

The BMW i4 will also combine the characteristic proportions of a four-door coupe with the typical design features of a BMW i model. Dynamically stretched lines and a precise surface design will go hand in hand with aerodynamically optimised exterior features as well as sustainability accentuations that are specific to BMW i. Easy entry and exit for rear passengers and a spacious, variable interior ensure high suitability for both day-to-day trips, as well as long-distance travel.

The new fifth generation BMW eDrive is to be shared with the iX3 and the iNEXT
The high-voltage battery of the BMW i4 can be charged to around 80% of its full energy content in around 35 minutes. This results in a charging time of around six minutes for a range of 100km.

The drive technology of the BMW i4 promises to set new standards in terms of power density, efficiency and range. The electric motor, electronics, charging unit and high-voltage battery have been entirely newly developed and together will form the fifth generation of BMW's eDrive technology with which the BMW Group has made further significant advancements in the field of electrified drive.

The fifth generation BMW eDrive is to be introduced for the first time in the pioneer BMW iX3 in 2020, and will subsequently be used in the BMW iNEXT and the BMW i4 in 2021. Advanced battery cell technology will enable sporty performance and a range of around 600km in the BMW i4.
