  • Opel launches the new Corsa in Singapore

Auto Germany has announced the official availability of the new sixth generation Opel Corsa supermini in Singapore.

The sixth generation Opel Corsa is now available in Singapore as of October 2020 at Auto Germany.

The 4,060mm long, five-door small car has a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 128bhp and 230Nm of torque, and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Corsa comes with parking and manoeuvring assistants such as front and rear parking sensors and a 180 degree panorama rear view camera
95% of maximum torque from the engine is developed between 1,500 and 3,500rpm. In combination with the low vehicle weight, smooth aerodynamics and the optimised gear ratios, this enables good drivability. The improved efficiency is reflected in its performance, with acceleration from zero to 100km/h happening in 8.7 seconds.

In addition to the new Corsa's lively engine, the lightweight design also contributes to the top driving dynamics. The lightest version of the new Opel Corsa even undercuts the 1,000kg mark. Excluding driver, the five-door weighs only 980kg.

With its coupe-like roof line, the new Corsa sits 48mm lower than before without sacrificing headroom for the driver and front passenger.

The new Corsa has a drag coefficient of 0.29Cd, making it one of the most aerodynamic cars in its class. The underbody from the engine compartment to the rear axle is covered with flat panelling to improve the underbody airflow.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, while the integrated navigation system is displayed on a 10-inch colour touchscreen
The spoiler at the rear edge of the roof improves the airflow and reduces the turbulence that causes drag. The spoiler cuts aerodynamic lift on the rear axle too, which further improves the Corsa's straight-line stability.

The new Corsa also benefits from an active shutter that lowers drag and improves fuel efficiency by automatically closing the frontal opening when cooling air is least needed. When closed, the shutter system enhances aero performance by redirecting airflow around the front of the vehicle and down the sides, rather than through the less aero efficient engine compartment. The shutter is open or closed depending on engine coolant temperature and speed.

In the new Corsa, there are numerous advanced driver assistance systems based on camera and radar technology, which enable safer, more relaxed driving.

Traffic Sign Recognition uses the new high tech front camera, and the navigation system now recognises more information, such as digital road signs. The information is then shown on the display. In addition to a flashing signal, Lane Keep Assist applies gradual corrective steering and a gentle nudge if the car leaves its lane unintentionally. The system gives an additional Lane Departure Warning in the Driver Info Centre.

Wireless charging comes as standard equipment and can be used to charge all compatible smartphones
Side Blind Spot Alert uses ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers to alert the driver to the presence of moving objects in the blind spots either side and to the rear of the car. A warning symbol lights up in the corresponding exterior mirror.

The Corsa also offers a camera and radar-based automatic emergency braking system. This reduces the car's speed by up to 50km/h in order to avoid or reduce the force of a heavy collision. Depending on the speed, the system can identify vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles and motorbikes.

The new Corsa's utilises the Intellilink Infotainment operated via a 10.0-inch colour touch screen. Angled slightly toward the driver, each system is positioned for optimum ergonomics in the clearly arranged instrument panel. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility come as standard, and there is also feature control via integrated voice recognition. Compatible smartphones can be charged wirelessly in the centre console.
