Opel to compete in Formula E for the 2026/27 season
23 Mar 2026|21 views
Starting from the 2026/27 season, Opel has announced that it will be competing in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the Opel GSE Formula E Team.
Opel says that its participation represents "the next logical step in all-electric motorsport". And with the introduction of its GEN4 cars for the upcoming season, the brand says that it is also the right time to demonstrate its own motorsport know-how and return to the circuit with forward-looking technology.
Marking the biggest leap in performance in the history of Formula E, the all-electric GEN4 race cars will offer a peak output of up to 600kW in both qualifying and attack mode - representing a 250kW increase as compared to before.
These fourth gen vehicles will also come with permanent instead of temporary all-wheel drive, as well as an increase of energy recovery (up to 700kW), benefitting the race cars' efficiency and range.
In addition, before Formula E kicks off the 2026/27 season, which will be the tournament's 13th season, the Opel GSE Formula E Team will make its first public appearance - scheduled for April 2026 - during the official GEN4 launch at the Paul Ricard racetrack in Le Castellet, where viewers will be treated to a "first look" and further updates.
