As Porsche's latest step in its electric offensive, the automaker is investing an undisclosed, high double-digit million-dollar sum in electromotive company Cellforce Group GmbH. Under this partnership, high-performance battery cells will soon be produced at Porsche's Weissach Development Centre, extending its technological leadership role in the field of electric mobility.

The composition of Cellforce's groundbreaking battery cells relies on silicon as the anode material, enabling a significant boost in power density. In other words, the battery can offer the same energy content within a smaller package. Another feature of the Cellforce battery cell is its ability to withstand high temperatures - an attribute that is highly valued in motorsport.

BASF, a world-renowned German chemicals company, has been chosen as a development partner for Cellforce's next generation lithium-ion batteries. As a part of the collaboration, BASF will exclusively provide cathode materials for the high-performance cells that enable fast charging and high energy densities.

The Federal Republic of Germany and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg will fund the project with around 60 million euros (S$96.2 million), demonstrating the importance of Cellforce's efforts towards electrified mobility.
