The all-electric ID.5 and ID.5 GTX have made their premiere at the Transparent Factory in Dresden with a new generation infotainment software system.

Those looking for a sleeker alternative to the ID.4 now have the option of getting an all-electric coupe SUV from Volkswagen with the premiere of the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX.

The new electric SUV projects independence and uniqueness from every angle.

Interior space in the ID.5 is said to be comperable to SUVs from a class above
Light strips at the front and back of the car identify it firmly as part of the ID. family. The car also gets its own bumper design, painted door panelling and new roof line to set it apart from the ID.4.

The large air inlet and Volkswagen's IQ.Light LED matrix head lights with intelligent high beam and 3D LED rear lights give the ID.5 GTX an even more dynamic appearance.

Like all ID. models, the ID.5 is based on the Volkswagen modular electric drive matrix. Three drivetrain options are being offered from launch for the coupe SUV.

For the ID.5 an electric engine in the rear will provide propulsion. This can be had in either 172bhp or 201bhp guise, allowing the car to complete the century sprint in 10.4 seconds or 8.4 seconds respectively. A 77kWh battery is being offered for the Volkswagen ID.5, which allows the car to offer a range of 520km.

A 295bhp ID.5 GTX is also available for those looking for more power
The ID.5 GTX however, will get a dual-motor setup with motors at either axle for all-wheel drive. Power output for the ID.5 GTX stands at 295bhp, bringing the century sprint time down to just 6.3 seconds. Total range for this performance model is now 489km.

The electric SUV coupe can also be charged at a maximum 11kW via alternating current. Charging performance can reach up to 135kW as standard at a direct current public charging station.

New for the ID.5 in the cabin is Volkswagen's latest ID. software 3.0, which features various improvements including natural voice control, It is now learning-enabled and enables online access to information from the Cloud. For atmospheric interior lighting, the Ambient Lighting feature offers a choice of up to 30 colours.

Despite its sloping roofline, the ID.5 has just 12mm less headroom in the back than the Volkswagen ID.4. The long 2,766 mm wheelbase is said to offer interior space that is comparable to those of SUVs in higher vehicle classes. Luggage space at the back stands at 549 litres.
