Volkswagen has premiered the ID.4 electric SUV.
The ID.4's exterior is described as sporting athletic proportions and an ultra-modern appearance.
A clear, flowing design guarantees good aerodynamics and a drag coefficient of 0.28. The basic version of the car will feature head lights that are almost completely equipped with LEDs, while its taillight clusters have been fully equipped with this technology.
The top-of-the-range version meanwhile, will get interactive IQ.Light LED matrix head lights which welcome drivers with swivelling lens modules and generate an intelligently controlled main beam.
These head lights have been paired with the new 3D LED tail light clusters. Large wheels with a diameter of up to 21-inches underline the rugged appearance of the car.
The ID.4 is built atop Volkswagen's Modular Electric drive Matrix (MEB) architecture, delivering a total vehicle length of 4,580mm. The new platform is said to divide available space between occupants and the drivetrain in a completely new way in favour of passengers. The resultant room available in the vehicle interior is also described as being comparable to that of conventional SUVs in the category above.

The luggage compartment of the ID.4 boasts a capacity from 543 litres, expanding to 1,575 litres with the rear seats folded. The equipment range of the ID.4 includes an electrically driven boot lid, roof railing and a towing bracket.
The electric SUV's cabin sports two displays - one of which diagonally measures up to 12 inches and features touch functionality - as well as natural voice control activated by simply saying "Hello ID".
An augmented reality head-up display is optionally available to blend a host of displays with reality. For instance, navigation arrows telling drivers to turn off are projected onto the road surface in exactly the right lane.

The battery stores up to 77kWh of net energy which enables ranges of up to 520km based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure cycle. It is installed below the passenger compartment which guarantees a low centre of gravity.
The electric drive motor, positioned at the rear axle, generates 201bhp, enough to accelerate the car from zero to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds and deliver a top speed of 160km/h. Thanks to the rear-wheel drive's strong grip and its 210mm of ground clearance, the ID.4 also performs well in gentle off-road terrain.
