Even with global deliveries in 2021 slipping due to the chip shortage, the firm saw total sales of its electric vehicles rising by a sizable 57.5%.

Audi saw sustained sales of its cars in 2021 despite the semiconductor shortage.

The firm delivered 1,680,513 models to customers worldwide in the year, 0.7% compared against its performance in 2020. It was initially on track to break sales records in the first half of 2021, with 981,681 vehicles, delivered. However, the persistent semiconductor shortages saw deliveries falling in the fourth quarter of the year.

Still, there was plenty of good news to be had in 2021. In a year that saw the firm doubling its all-electric portfolio, sales of the firm’s fully-electric vehicles also grew to 81,894, a growth of 57.5% compared to 2020. By 2025, Audi plans to have more than 20 fully electric models in its portfolio. Starting in 2026, the brand will exclusively bring new fully electric models to the market.

The firm also saw strong global demand for models including the Q3 (which saw sales rise by 19.2%), A5 (8.3%), and the A7 (9.2%). The SUV segment was also highly sought after, with the Q5 (5.3%) and the Audi Q7 (5.3%) also gaining traction. The high performance models from Audi Sport once again exceeded the previous year and set a new record with 39,356 vehicles sold, beating last year’s performance by 34.2%.
