With more than 2.5 million examples delivered since 2008, the Mercedes-Benz GLC (including its predecessor, the GLK) is an undoubted favourite amongst many across the globe, securing its position as the firm’s best-selling model series to date.
Now, Mercedes-Benz is on its way to revealing a new GLC, with prototypes already being tested in the snowy and icy roads of Sweden.
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC is set to get the 2.0-litre four-cylinder M254 petrol engine, available with outputs of up to 255bhp The compact luxury SUV is set to get the 2.0-litre four-cylinder M254 petrol engine, available with outputs of up to 255bhp and producing up to 400Nm of torque. This engine lineup will come paired with a 48V mild hybrid system that utilises a 23bhp starter-alternator integrated into the transmission.
Two petrol-powered plug-in hybrids have also been confirmed for the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which will come with an electric motor that can generate up to 134bhp and 440Nm of torque, while offering an electric-only range of 100km based on the WLTP cycle.
Also confirmed for the Mercedes-Benz GLC is an upgraded suite of safety and driver assistance functions. The firm's Active Steering Assist, for example, has been upgraded for improved performance in bends on country roads and improved lane centring on motorways.
The firm's Traffic Sign Assist meanwhile, has also been upgraded so it not only detects signposted speed limits, but also signs on overhead gantries and in roadworks.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is also set to get the second generation MBUX infotainment system already present in the S-Class and C-Class. The system, when paired with the firm's 360-degree camera system, will offer a transparent bonnet view, displaying in real-time a view of the ground under the front of the car, combined with a virtual representation of the driving lane based on the current steering angle, on the central display.
