Maximising zero local emissions fun: MINI has unveiled a new Cooper SE Convertible (a convertible variant of the model known simply as the MINI Electric here in Singapore), just ahead of the arrival of summer in the U.S.A.
The car is set to make its public debut at the traditional 'MINI Takes the States' community event in the U.S.A.
The one-off MINI Cooper SE Convertible takes the body of the MINI Cooper S Convertible and the drivetrain from the MINI Electric But if you're looking to catch some rays yourself in a compact open-top, you'll need to look elsewhere: MINI unfortunately states that this model will not enter series production, but has instead only been built as a unique specimen, designed to show the path of how an all-electric premium brand could continue and also electrify classic sporty open-air driving in the future.
Still, better loved and lost than to not have loved at all, eh?
Based on the body of a MINI Cooper S Convertible, this Cooper SE Convertible comes in at a total length of 3,863mm, while its total width stands at 1,727mm. The load volume in the luggage compartment is claimed to be unchanged from the Cooper S Convertible, at 160 litres.
Power meanwhile comes courtesy of the same drivetrain found in the MINI Electric, with 181bhp going to the front wheels. The Cooper SE Convertible is said to be able to crack the zero to 100km/h sprint in just 7.7 seconds, while its WLTP range stands at 230km.
But of course, the more important figure here is the fact that its textile soft top can be opened or retracted in just 18 seconds at the touch of a button, at speeds of up to 30km/h.
