In the first round of bidding for September, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rose for Cat B and E while premiums for Cat A fell.

Residual new car buying interest from the still recent [email protected] event could have fuelled the rise in premiums for Cat B and E COE.

Cat A COE - Moving away from the $90,000 mark

Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, slipped this session, dropping by $1,889 (2.2%) to end at $86,000.

This latest slip sees premiums for the category now standing at 32.9% above the 12-month trailing average. This price is now at the 95th percentile of prices across the last 12 months.

The total number of bids submitted this session exceeded the number of unsuccessful bids this round by 30%, significantly lower than the 12-month average of 43% for the category.


Cat B COE- Climbing back up again

Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, continued to climb this session. Premiums in the category rose by $999 (0.9%) this session to reach $113,000.

This renewed climb in premiums for the category has brought the current price to 25.7% above the 12-month trailing average.

The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceed the quota available by 33%, lower than the 12-month average figure for this category of 42%.


Cat C COE - A steep $5,889 climb

Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, took a sizable climb this session, rising by $5,889 (10%), to close at $64,989.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 111%, higher than the 12-month average for this category of 96%.


Cat E COE - Also going strong

Cat E, the open category, also continued to climb this session, rising by a total of $1,298 (1.2%), bringing the premium for the category to $113,299.

This new climb means current premiums for the category are now at 22.6% above the 12-month trailing average.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 58%. The 12-month average for this figure for the category is 64%.


Prevailing Quota Premium

The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
