  • Volvo C40 Recharge electric SUV unveiled in Singapore

The Volvo C40 Recharge is the Swedish carmaker's first electric-only model, and its second EV available in Singapore. It is priced from $279,000 with COE.

Wearnes Automotive, the official Volvo agent in Singapore, today launched the brand's first electric-only model, the C40 Recharge.

In contrast to the XC40 Recharge that was launched in January this year, which is available with either an electric or plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the C40 Recharge was designed from the beginning to be electric only.

The C40 Recharge's fastback-like rear end and spoilers lend it a sporty character
Apart from being Volvo's first electric-only model, the SUV distinguishes itself with its coupe-like body style, featuring a sloping roofline and tailgate. It is lower and sleeker than the XC40.

Also unique are the Pixel Technology Head Lights that adapt to various lighting conditions. The 84 Pixel LEDs in each headlamp can switch on and off automatically to adapt the light pattern.

Meanwhile, the C40's wheel design, which is inspired by the Volvo 360c concept, helps improve aerodynamics.

Further distinguishing the C40 Recharge are that it is the first Volvo to be completely leather-free, and the colour and decor options offered to buyers are unique to the model.

The C40 is the first Volvo model to have a completely leather-free cabin
Burnishing the car's eco-friendly credentials, too, are the materials used in the cabin. The carpet, for instance, is made from 100% recycled PET bottles, while the topography trim panels are constructed from recycled plastic.

One of the upholstery options even contains naturally renewable wool fibres.

For connectivity, the car's Android-powered infotainment system comes with Google Maps and Assistant as standard.

In Singapore, the C40 Recharge shares the same drivetrain as the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor from Volvo's sister company, Polestar.

Propelling the SUV are two electric motors, one on the front and the other on the rear axle. These are powered by a 78kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a maximum range of 450km (WLTP).

Volvo claims the range is expected to improve over time as the vehicle's software receives over-the-air updates.

With 408bhp and 660Nm of torque, the C40 Recharge tackles the century sprint in 4.7 seconds. For everyday driving convenience, it has a one-pedal driving function.

C40 Recharge is currently available in one variant - Twin Pure Electric Ultimate
In terms of charging, the SUV is capable of being plugged into a 150kW DC charger, allowing the batteries to be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes.

Prices for the C40 Recharge, which is in VES band A1, currently start from $279,000 with COE.
