A Nissan Leaf has demonstrated its vehicle-to-grid capability by lighting up a Christmas tree that was part of the display at the Nissan Sunderland Plant in the U.K.
Built to celebrate the production of the 250,000th Leaf in the U.K., the 9.7m-tall tree and its accompanying reindeer made use of the car's vehicle-to-grid technology, which allows drivers to store electricity in the battery of their vehicles and feed into back into a grid, building, or a Christmas tree, if so needed.
In 2021 Nissan's Sunderland Plant was announced as the home of EV36ZERO, a $1.62 billion flagship electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem bringing together electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production.
