A Nissan Ariya, alongside electric vehicle adventurers Chris and Julie Ramsey, have set off from the North Pole on a 27,000km journey.

Electric vehicle adventurers Chris and Julie Ramsey, alongside their Nissan Ariya (read more about the regular car here) have started their highly anticipated Pole to Pole expedition.

The trio have set out from the North Magnetic Pole following a comprehensive safety assessment, and are set to cover more than 27,000km through North, Central and South America. They aim to ultimately reach Antarctica's South Pole in December.

The Pole-to-Pole Nisaan Ariya gets 29-inch tyres, however, no modifications have been made to its battery or powertrain
If successful, Chris and Julie Ramsey, alongside the Nissan Ariya, will be the first to complete the Pole-to-Pole challenge in a battery electric vehicle.

The two have decided to take the journey to demonstrate just how capable and exciting electric vehicles are, with the hope to accelerate their adoption as a positive action against the climate crisis.

The Nissan Ariya undertaking the journey has received a suspension lift and has had its wheel arches extended in order to house 39-inch tyres that will help it to drive over the now and ice. Nissan states that no modifications were made to its battery and powertrain or its e-4orce system, Nissan's advanced electric all-wheel-control technology.

The car is, however, towing a renewable energy unit that includes an extendable wind turbine and foldable solar panels. This unit will allow the car to take advantage of the expected high winds and long daylight hours to charge its battery while Chris and Julie take breaks from driving.
