Subaru has revealed the new Crosstrek Wilderness, just two months after it revealed the 2024 Crosstrek at the Chicago Auto Show.
The Wilderness model of the Crosstrek is designed to deliver increased trail-going capability, and accordingly offers a revised drivetrain, added body cladding, as well as a raised ride height.
The Crosstrek Wilderness gets a transmission oil cooler that allows it to tow up to 1,587kg Starting off the improvements for the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is a revised differential gear ratio and retuned Lineartronic CVT. These changes are said to improve the car's climbing ability. The car's maximum towing capacity is also now doubled in the Wilderness specification thanks to the addition of a transmission oil cooler.
This transmission is linked to a 2.5-litre boxer engine, delivering 180bhp and 239Nm of torque. Like all 2024 Crosstrek models, the Wilderness will come equipped with the brand's award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.
Communicating this raised capability of the Crosstrek Wilderness are new front and rear bumpers that differ from those of the regular Crosstrek, as well as a new front grille, larger wheel arch claddings, and a metal front skid plate.
Copper-finsh accents feature throughout the interior of the car The car additionally gets a body-coloured roof spoiler and black side mirrors, as well as Subaru Wilderness badges on its front doors and rear gate. A ladder-type roof rack system, with a 317kg static load limit, will allow the use of large roof-top tents.
Just as relevant to off-road adventures is a total of 236mm of ground clearance, 15mm greater than the regular crosstrek.
The car is also said to get longer coil springs and shock absorbers, tuned to maintain its dynamic performance despite the adjusted height. The Subaru Crosstrek will come equipped with Subaru's X-Mode driver-selectable Vehicle Dynamics Control system.
