  • Audi's poster boy gets refreshed, time to update your poster wall

Based on the Gallardo platform and first introduced in 2006, numerous spy shots have come up all over the web for the facelifted Audi R8. Now the mask is off.

When Audi first introduced the R8, it undoubtedly became an icon and a poster boy not only for Audi fans but for petrolheads. The styling was remarkable that even Iron Man had a coupe and a cabriolet.

Six years after its first introduction, Audi has done it again. With subtle changes it has revealed the facelifted R8 supercar (finally) and is introducing a new range topping model - R8 V10 plus. Honestly styling is known for Italians and it is a real mystery how Audi can keep producing designs that can match million dollar supercars.

An array of LED’s surrounds the sharp styled daytime running lights with CFRP playing a pivotal role in the updated R8 range. The tweaked grille is painted in high-gloss black, with horizontal chrome inserts for the V10 variants. There is also a revised bumper and air inlets with three crossbars boosting testosterone levels. A front splitter made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) can be installed as an option.

The striking side blades have an aluminum look on the V10 Coupe and for an option; LEDs will light up the engine compartment. A new “R8” badge with a different font face sits between the vent openings. The large rear diffusor has been pulled upwards and is also available is CFRP trim. The most striking change at the back is the two round, glossy tailpipe exhausts akin to the R8 GT. The R8 Spyder also receives some CFRP treatment in the lid and the some side panels.

The newly introduced R8 V10 plus, will only be available as a coupe, and produces 550bhp with 540Nm of torque. The S tronic flings the car to a 100 km/h in a brisk 3.5 seconds before reaching 317 km/h. It sips 12.9 L/100 km while emitting 22 grams of CO2 per km.

The R8 V10 plus features bucket seats with a glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) chassis. It wears light alloy wheels and ceramic brakes. To counter weight issues CFRP is added outside the mirror housings and side blades besides the front splitter and rear diffusor. The engine compartment is lit by LED’s as standard and is partially lined with, once again, CFRP. The tailpipes featured here are black compared to the other variants in the R8 range.
