Bugatti Veyron Super Sport stripped off 'fastest' production car title

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has been stripped off its title for the fastest production car in the world.

The stripping of the title seemed to have stemmed from an inquiry, which led to an investigation by Guinness World Records. It was found that the supercar used to achieve the winning 430.98km/h had in fact been modified, therefore breaching the rules.

The record-breaking car had its top speed limiter deactivated, which is contrary to the 30 production cars that came fitted with the limiter activated at 415km/h.

In view of the title strip, the world's fastest production car will now fall to the SSC Ultimate Aero with a top speed of 411.72km/h. It will not last for long though, as the Venom GT managed to reach 427.6km/h during testing. The record is not official as yet. 

Bugatti may yet regain the title with their Veyron Super which is rumoured to hit a top speed of 463km/h. Hopefully this time, they will remember not to flout the rules.
