The Straits Times reported that a chain collision along the East Coast Parkway (ECP) saw eight casualties conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH). The accident involved a SBS bus, a lorry, a panel-van and a sedan at about 11:00pm yesterday.
According to eyewitnesses the tabloid spoke to, the string of events started when the SBS bus swerved from the right to the left lane on the expressway. And like dominoes, one crash lead to another after the bus rammed head-on into the back of the lorry which caused it to hit a van. The impact caused the van to crash into an Opel sedan commuting in front of it.
The front section of the bus sustained heavy damages, and left the driver trapped in his seat. He was later extricated by the Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart). A medical team from SGH was also activated.
According to an SCDF spokesman, they received a call about the incident at about 11.10pm and dispatched four ambulances, three support vehicles and two fire engines. Three bus passengers and four workers in the lorry - along with the bus driver - were conveyed to SGH in a conscious state just after midnight.
