Moreover, the air intake is partially restricted by the throttle valve, resulting in a high vacuum build up in the inlet manifold.
Hence, this high vacuum build up causes more fuel to be consumed and also energy to slow down the vehicle. This gives rise to the 'engine braking' effect that we experience when we lift off the accelerator pedal when slowing down or going downhill.
Resistance in inducted air
It is normal for inducted air to have resistance and this happens over the entire rpm range. This causes the engine to expand energy to overcome this inherent weakness.
