Since then, 950,000 Audi's have been assembled in China, and 50,000 have been imported, far surpassing any other premium automaker currently in China.
The 1 millionth car sold was a metallic blue Q5, which was assembled at the Changchun plant.
For the first 9-months of 2010, Audi's sold a staggering 175,000 cars in China and Hong Kong. And, they're expecting total 2010 sales to be around 200,000. Making their goal of selling another million Audi's in 3 years, look very realistic.
Part of Audi's success can be attributed to their range of China-only vehicles, which were designed specifically to meet the needs of Chinese customers.
Since the Chinese ruling-class prefers their Audi's to be driven by a chauffeur. Cars like the A4L, and A6L were designed with extra rear legroom, and more luxuries in the back.
These cars also have modified suspensions, to smooth out China's occasionally rough roads.
Audi's made a 22 year investment in the Chinese market. And, since they've actually been listening to their customers, it'll be interesting to see how long it takes for them to sell their next million Audi's.
