Aion V Electric
Most value for money Cat A EV
This is the most value for money Cat A EV, packed full of features like refrigerator, massage chairs for both front seats, wireless ApplePlay, full sunroof, fully decked with luxurious leather. The drive is very relaxed as the cabin is super quiet with double glazed windows shutting out the exterior noise. Rear passengers are treated to a ride aka in premium economy as there is huge legroom space. Very comfortable drive overall and if power is needed, easily available at the tap of the accelerator pedal. I like the fast charging capability as I can get a quick boost if I need to "top up" battery last minute. The ride is comfortable as the suspension is well sorted, going over bumps and humps gracefully. Good price point also and road tax is not high as it is only Cat A. So car mechanically no issues, pleased with my purchase.... Read More

Skoda Superb Combi Mild Hybrid
The superbly superb Superb
The Škoda Superb has returned to Singapore in its Kombi form, and it's better than ever. Now standard as the top-notch Laurin & Klement variant, it aims to give its German competitors a run for their money. At about 5 meters long and 1.9 meters wide, it comfortably stands alongside both the 5 Series and the E Class while being close to $200,000 cheaper. That however doesn't mean it's not a quality car. It feels solidly put together, bar a few cheap feeling knobs and trims here and there. But you can't really complain for a car of this caliber that's going for much less than its premium competition. There's plenty to like and it's packed full of features like a full-length panoramic sunroof, Canton sound system, massaging seats, sleeping headrests, 4-way lumbar support, DCC plus (adaptive suspension), comfort entry, these are all quirks that make life easier and comfortable. Even the doorbins have felt lining which isn't present in more premium German rivals. The 1.5L engine is a little on the less powerful side, but it's manageable. Steering is pretty good, it's easy to place this car even though it's quite long. You can pop it in and out of corners if you'd like, but it's not really a car meant to be driven in that manner. Its strong point lies in comfort, and oh boy does it deliver. The DCC Plus works wonders, giving you what you want be it a firmer drive or a floaty one. The smart dials make it easy to change the drive mode and adjust the climate without taking your eyes off the road which is a huge plus! If you're after a luxury limousine that doesn't break the bank, here's the answer. It's superb, and it's a Superb.... Read More

CUPRA Tavascan Electric
Welcome back!
Seat are back. Or what used to be a Seat, anyway. CUPRA has broken its chains and become a lone wolf in the performance segment. This is the Tavascan, and it shares its platform with the Škoda Enyaq, VW ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. Inside you'll find yourself in a whole new world. There's lots to like about this car, especially the beautiful ambient lighting integration in the doors and the dashboard. The gaming-inspired centre console is a bold direction for interior design. It may look weird at first, but it grows on you slowly. There's plenty of adjustment for the seats and it's soft, plush and comfortable. It's relatively decent for 3 in the back, and there's enough headroom and legroom for all. This car is zippy - the acceleration is something to behold. You can easily find yourself hitting the back of your seat if you floor it. It's a really fun thing to drive. It floats around but at the same time, you have the option to change the stiffness of the suspension to your liking. If you're after a fun, sporty SUV with enough space for the family, CUPRA's resurgence might just be the answer.... Read More

BMW X1
Xtraordinarily average
The U11 is BMW's latest answer to the compact SUV segment. It is one of the German automaker's entry-level cars, so is it capable of bearing the Bavarian badge? Having tested the M Sport variant, well, not quite. It shares a front-wheel drive platform with the MINI Countryman, which doesn't exactly scream luxury. The 3-cylinder 1.5l engine pumps out 120 horsepower and 230Nm - it isn't exactly too little, but it is quite underpowered especially up against the electric vehicles we now see so often on the road so it makes overtaking slow drivers a little bit of a faff. To change drive modes, you have to access the ever-so-annoying iDrive 9. Sure, it looks cool, but it isn't exactly practical. M Sport suspension works just fine if you're alright with vomiting every 5 minutes. Not exactly the best experience for passengers. It seats 4 just fine but it struggles a little with 5. Features-wise there's no panoramic roof, no storage nets and the centre storage is as useful as a red light on Grand Theft Auto. What do you even put in there (Oh and it opens the wrong way too)?? Build quality is on the decent end. Not great but not the worst. You're better off with the iX1. It's also cheaper.... Read More

BYD Sealion 7 Electric
Porsche's latest Cayenne!
The latest iteration of the German powerhouse's flagship has now gone all-electric... ...except it's not German at all - This is the BYD Sealion 7, a car so refined you could easily mistake for a Porsche model if you covered the badge. BYD has been making waves in the last 2 years with the Atto 3 and the Seal, and it has now delivered another product to rival the Tesla Model Y. Can the Chinese outplay the... Chinese? From the rear, it stands out with its menacing stance and "droplet' designed lights. It has two spoilers for improved aerodynamics, but that's where the flair ends. The front and sides are a complete eyesore. It has plastic wheel arches and vents, and looks like a catfish. But forget that. Step inside to a world of luxury with quilted leather, comfy and plush seats, a panoramic moonroof, heads-up display, it's almost a moving home. The diffused ambient lighting gives a premium feel and isn't too bright or dark. The crystal gear selector gives you a reminder before you set off that you're driving a really special car. Acceleration is zippy, but there's not quite the handling to match the power of this car. There's plenty of body sway too - passengers with motion sickness, or passengers in general, to be honest might not be the biggest fan. Seating comfort is brilliant though and excels in every aspect. For $210,000, it's quite literally a bargain. You get alot for your money. It's big, it's powerful and ticks almost every box.... Read More

BYD Sealion 7 Electric
Risk your aftersales
Value for money. Feature-rich. You get lots for $210k. BUT be aware, buy at your own risk. The aftersales is effectively non-existent. "Is like that one", "this is normal" were the responses I got when my SL7 from Sime Motors on Alexandra Rd has glitches that included software, audio, and scratches on delivery. Have a look at their QC being done in the carpark of that building. You will go "Joking right...". That should have been the warning to me.... Read More

BMW sDrive20i (8-Year Ownership Review): Great Drive, But Budget for Maintenance
After nearly 8 years behind the wheel of the BMW sDrive20i, I figured it's time to share my experience—better late than never. ? Space & Practicality This compact SUV has proven surprisingly spacious. Both front and rear seats comfortably accommodate my family of four (with two kids under 12). The boot is impressively deep—especially with the adjustable base cover. I've packed a 28" suitcase plus a couple of 20" ones with no issue at all. ?? Performance & Drive Quality Powered by the B48 2.0L twin-turbo engine, the sDrive20i delivers more than enough punch for daily driving. Acceleration is brisk, overtaking is effortless, and cruising below 150 km/h feels quiet and stable. It's a joy to drive—refined yet responsive. ? Infotainment & Comfort The original head unit lacked a touchscreen, but I swapped it out for an Android player, which solved that. Sound quality from the stock speakers is decent—nothing audiophile-grade, but good enough for everyday use. ?? Maintenance & Reliability Here's where things get real. BMW maintenance is notoriously pricey, and this car is no exception. • Oil leaks are common—I've spent a fair bit replacing worn parts. • Gearbox overhaul was needed at 120,000 km. • Water pump and thermostat recently failed, leading to coolant leakage and engine overheating. ? Final Thoughts Despite the maintenance costs, I genuinely enjoy driving BMWs—this being my second after an F30. The driving experience is hard to beat: smooth, confident, and engaging. Just be prepared to invest in upkeep if you plan to keep it long-term.... Read More

MG S5 EV
Love the MG S5 EV!
My two cents so far on the S5. (Previously drove the ZS, a very competent starter EV and upgraded to the S5 since July) For almost the same price as a BYD Atto 3, the MG S5 EV gives you more of everything—space, comfort, tech, and fun drive. I love its RWD config that gives a very spirited drive. I love the One-pedal mode (Tesla vibes!) and been using it since day one. Tight U-turns are a breeze really! Nice checkered flag style DRLs + quirky "Smiley Face and Splinter Cell" brake lights (IYKYK) I chose the beige interior as it felt more posh compared to the dark and gives a very bright interior. Very spacious backseat for 3 adults. Smooth torque (not as instant as the ZS but still very good), plus the comfort braking which does not give that jerk feel some people feel abt EVs. My wife and daughters fall asleep more easily when it's a long drive. Slim front pillar = better visibility (safety aspect) compared to the ZS. Intuitive infotainment (THOUGH I had issues with lagging and hanging but it was resolved by the dealer) In our local context with the stupid high COE, this feels like proper value for money. Practical, comfortable, and yet fun enough to make you look forward to every drive or take a second look after you parked the car. ?... Read More
