Volkswagen, the Wolfsburg based German auto-giant, has rolled out the refurbished Polo with quite a few substantial changes both inside and outside from its plant in Pune. The Polo has always been regarded as a smartly styled vehicle, owing to its European looks and solid build quality. Initially, launched in petrol and diesel versions with a revised power line, the TSi and TDi variants will return in the month of September, this time round more potent than before.

I will not ever purchase another Volkswagen vehicle. Reason being, poor after sales service ! I had send in my Polo for gearbox issue not long before I collected it. It takes 4 months to collect my vehicle after repair. I thought my worse nightmare is over, but its not ! After the repairs I thought the issue had been resolved". but the same gearbox issue came back less than 3 months later. I will not purchase another vehicle from them anymore. All I get is empty promises and false hope time after time !

Was looking to buy a new car, hence test drove the Polo 1.2 TSI 105bhp with DSG when it was just launched.


More than sufficient power from the 1.2 turbocharged engine. Acceleration was brisk and effortless. It's turbocharged hence lots of useful torque at low revs. Low RPM when crusing at 7th gear contributes to low fuel consumption. Noise was low unless you full throttle to red line.


Handling however was vague like most Japanese cars with little feedback from the steering wheel.


Didn't buy it in the end as I was advised by VW owners that parts are expensive, not readily available and repairs can take a long long time. Most importantly, it was the uncertainty over the DSG reliability that puts me off.


At the end of the day, it was a correct decision not to buy one. If you google "VW Polo problems", you will come across things like engine stalling in the middle of the junction, turbo issues, DSG problems, engine vibrations and other unresolvable issues.

The worse quality and after sales service in the market

My wife use the car for a almost a year, the DSG failed once with 6 months and can not start, took few days to repaired.


The longest after sales in the market, one and a half month waiting time and unproffessional after sales service compare to Mazda, Toyota and Honda which I owned before.


On 1st 15Km service, I noticed some slight line on the front brake disc but told is fine. On 30Km service, I complaint the line is deeper on one side. They told me it is due to Hard Braking. They recommending the replacing the Frt brake disc cost $300 And pads cost$180. Replacing both will cost $ 960 .


When confront the manager, they switched to wear and tear. Still unable to explain why only one side of the brake disc has deep cut line.


The answer is wear and tear.

I am amazed by how Volkswagen can keep coming out with good cars with only under 1400 cc and they perform very well in terms of power consistency and economy. Love how it looks after it's makeup almost a Golf but at a lower price.

Tested this car a week ago... Was surprise at how fast the gearbox changes down when i gave little harder step... Im sure a lot of ppl experienced a long moment of nothingness when overtaking in an auto car. This car changes down immediately when i gave the accelerator a little bit more pressure...


I would say this car is value for money because of the DSG...


However the interior was a bit of a let down cos almost all VW cars have almost the same interior... basically u need a sharp eye to differciate between a Golf and a Polo


Conclusion: I would say hang on to ur pen and cheque and wait for the option lists to be up and the 1.4 TSI which is the Polo GTi

Tested the new Polo during the launch period.


Was captured by its more rounding looks compared to the predecessor that is smaller and squarish.


Drive was good and not much body roll when turning.


Engine is quieter and gears more responsive, probably thanks to DSG gearbox.


Great price of $65k to get during launch for a VW.


Overall, its a good compact conti car to get.
