Mazda 6 Sedan
Surprisingly good for a dated car
I was reluctant to get it at first bcos im not a fan of direct injection. Only toyota got it right with D4S. But after visiting mazda service centre, they do walnut blasting regularly to keep the intake valves clean. Service centre experience is good but not exceptional. But their service report is amazing. I did aircon cleaning package and came back with 10 page report with photos! Wow.
Coming from a 2010 camry 2.0, this car is definitely on the stiff and sporty suspension side. The mazda just doesnt hv the comfy ride of a camry. Even though the mazda 6 has 162bhp, it just doesnt feel as lively as the weaker camry 2.0 with 147bhp. Probably bcos of the transmission. The mazda transmission feels locked up torque converter once i drive off. Hence the transmission doesnt feel silkly smooth. Nor does it make the mazda 6 feel lively to drive. But mazda does give sport mode which keeps the revs high, but im more into fuel efficiency than power. And it doesnt disappoint, i easily get 10km/L without even trying hard with i-stop off. The camry 2.0 only 8km/L. But then again whatever savings you get from direct injection is all wasted when mazda has to do walnut blasting to keep the intake valves clean. Mazda also recommends regular use of fuel injector cleaner to keep the direct injectors clean. The boot space of the mazda 6 is also shallower than the camry, but makes up for it with fold down rear seats.
So why did i give the mazda 6 five stars when clearly i have a preference for my old 2010 camry 2.0 which drives so smoothly and comfy and good NVH and feels more powerful than the mazda 6? I believe this car can go beyond the 10 year mark and reach 15 or even 20 years peaceably without being a money pit. I hv owned many cars and many hv become money pits as they age. Many cannot even make it to the 10 year mark peaceably. But i think mazda got it right with the mazda 6 2.0, dont fix what's not broke. At 225k right now, its really good value for money considering it can likely go beyond 10 years without being a money pit. And 2.0L engine is more tax friendly beyond 10 years. Now camrys are all hybrid and im doubtful it can go beyond 10 years without being a money pit. They dont build it like they used to before. And 2.5L is not tax friendly after 10 years. And finally my 27 yr old son loves driving the mazda 6. He calls the camry an old man car!... Read More

Audi Q5
A Well-Rounded Redesign with Substance Over Badge
The 2018 generation Audi Q5 has been thoughtfully redesigned to address the shortcomings of its predecessor. Audi listened to feedback on the first-generation model, refining key areas like interior ergonomics, technology integration, and driving dynamics. The result is a vehicle that feels purpose-built rather than a mere badge carrier.
When comparing the Q5 to its direct rivals—the 2018 BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC—the distinction becomes clear. Unlike its competitors, where a significant portion of the price tag leans heavily on brand prestige, the Q5 delivers tangible value in terms of material quality and design sophistication.
For instance, BMW's Virtual Cockpit implementation in the X3 feels half-baked, lacking the seamless integration and polish expected at this level. Mercedes, on the other hand, omitted a full virtual cluster in the GLC altogether. Audi's Virtual Cockpit in the Q5 sets the benchmark here—fully digital, crisp, and intuitively designed, enhancing the driving experience rather than complicating it.
On the performance front, the Q5 offers an impressive powertrain lineup that, at similar price points, is hard to match among its peers. Beyond engine output, Audi has paid attention to mechanical hardware where it counts. While many rivals, including the X3 and GLC, feature single-piston brake calipers in comparable trims, the Q5 comes equipped with robust 4-piston calipers, ensuring superior braking performance and fade resistance—a detail often overlooked but crucial for driving confidence.
The body tensile strength and warp strength are also leading in it's class. Q5 is really class leading in many areas for same price point.... Read More

MINI Cooper C 5-Door
More Refined Go-Kart
Test Drove the Mini Cooper C 5-Door on 27 July. Comparing the F55 Mini Cooper 5-Door and this F65 Mini Cooper 5-Door, the differences are night and day. Obviously the cockpit layout is different. It's now back to the traditional display in the middle like the old minis. There's an additional Heads-Up-Display for the driver.
The 1.5L B38 turbo engine is more powerful this time around. The F65 responds faster and quicker than the previous generation F55. The DCT programming is much more refined as well, adding to the sporty go-kart feel.
The suspension is the biggest talking point for me on the F65 when comparing the F55. The F55's felt more raw and much more unsettled driving over bumps and road imperfections. You can feel it in your spine. In comparison to the F65, the ride comfort is noticeably more refined. Going over bumps and road imperfections are less jarring while still keeping the go-kart handling and feel. Overall the F65 is much more comfortable to drive over longer distances.... Read More

BMW iX3 Electric
Does value for money ever get better than this?
Elegance and sportiness define the G01 generation X3. Add electrification, and you get the G08. This car is simply amazing. With the increasing number of chinese EVs on the market, the trend of "Stick a big tablet onto the dashboard and call it the infotainment system" increases. On the iX3, you get the ever intuitive iDrive 7 - a perfect blend of touchscreen AND physical controls. Step into the car and you're greeted with a comfortable Vernasca leather seat, a 12.3" driver's display and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The memory functions make it easy to switch driving position when different drivers are using the car. The rear doesn't compromise at all - you get a full-length panoramic sunroof, ample room to fit three though there is a transmission tunnel to put your feet around. The seats are plush and even the middle seat is one where you would willingly spend long road trips on.
On the test drive, the adaptive suspension works wonders. You feel the ride firm up when you switch it into sport mode. Pop it into comfort mode and you have your very own magic carpet. The power delivery is smooth (as expected from an EV), and though this is quite a heavy car, it does in a way help with the handling and agility - do remember that this is a BMW after all, so you get your RWD drivetrain too.
For families looking for space, practicality and luxury yet doesn't compromise on sporty driving dynamics, the iX3 is a great way into electrification. Oh, and the build quality is quite simply brilliant.... Read More

BYD Seal Electric
Most regret decision ever made.
Battery range is FAKE. I have been driving my seal dynamic for 1 year. Actual battery range only 240-280km at best. Told service center, they gave all sorts of excuses, say heavy foot driving. I've tried light foot at 60km/hr everywhere I go. Also same. 250km. Do not buy unless u mind charging for AC 8 hours/DC 1.5hre every 250km.... Read More

Hyundai Kona Electric
Humming Sound - Safety feature for EV
The humming sound as a safety feature is very loud. Quite embarrassing when everyone starred at you especially during parking. Reversing is the worst. The sound is louder than a mechanical engine car. But Hyundai told me it is normal.
The lack of 360-degree camera also poses an issue during tight corner. But no complain as i bought it knowing there was no 360-degree camera.... Read More

BYD Sealion 6 Plug-in Hybrid
My Test Drive Experience with the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i (Pre-Launch Review)
Test Drive Review: BYD Sealion 6 DM-i (Pre-Launch Experience)
I had the chance to test drive the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i during their pre-launch sales event at BYD Alexandra on Sunday. BYD has clearly adjusted the specifications of the Sealion 6 DM-i to keep it competitively priced. Most of the omitted features are nice-to-haves rather than essentials. The more noticeable exclusions include: Head-Up Display (HUD), Parking Assist, Memory Seats, and downgraded tires and sound system. (Personally, I couldn't really tell the difference in sound quality, but both my wife and daughter felt that the systems in the Sealion 7 and Seal were noticeably better.)
Driving Experience
The overall driving feel is solid — composed, comfortable, and refined, without being overly floaty or dull. Cabin soundproofing is excellent, and on par with what you'd expect from higher-end luxury vehicles.
My only real gripe is with the steering. It felt far too light and disconnected, almost like a video game steering wheel — in fact, my PS5 steering wheel gives more feedback. Switching to Sport mode helps slightly with steering response, but it still felt numb to me.
Interior & Space
Cabin space is generous. Seating three adults in the back is comfortable, and if the passengers are smaller in size, you might even manage to squeeze four. Boot space is decent — about the same as what you'd get in a typical mid size SUV.
Performance
Acceleration is smooth and adequate. It's not a rocket off the line, but it moves from a standstill with ease and without drama. Engine noise is minimal, contributing to the premium and relaxing drive feel.
Braking performance is also impressive. Whether you set the regenerative braking to high or low, it doesn't have the abrupt, jerky feel that earlier EVs often struggled with (at least from what I remember).
Final Thoughts
The 10-year battery warranty and 10 years of free servicing make this an even more attractive package.
There is another PHEV SUV in the same price range that includes many of the features missing from the Sealion 6 — including a Sony sound system — but I'd still pick the Sealion 6 DM-i for its overall comfort, excellent noise insulation, refined suspension, and premium driving feel.
That said, if you're open to going fully electric, the BYD Sealion 7 is definitely worth a serious look.... Read More

Kia Niro Hybrid
Good car, good service.
[Written on behalf of my mother.]
I had recently bought a Kia Niro Hybrid, and was sold the car by Dom Wong. I think the car is a good car, as it feels smooth when driving.
Furthermore, the service I experienced was good. Picking up the car was a pleasant experience. Dom explained the functions of the car patiently and with great detail, and answered my questions well. Will recommend Dom Wong.... Read More

Lexus ES 300h Hybrid
Lexus ES250 fuel consumption is very high and the ES300 Hybrid also not really save on petrol . Lexus is just the high spec of Toyota .
Lexus ES250,ES300 is under power compares with others 2.0/2.5cc cars and totally can't compare with Audi, BMW and Mercedes it just everything the same as Toyota Camry . The only different is the body print Lexus name and price different 100-200k . Totally not worth to buy a Lexus Japan high spec Toyota for this price and the out look also feel very small and the back light look quite similar as Toyota viox . If got choice better choose others than Lexus .... Read More
