After the teaser video was presented at Jaguar Land Rover's Geneva show press conference early this year, the first official image of the all new Jaguar XE mid-size premium sports sedan was unveiled by the premium British automaker.
The test mule is wrapped in camouflage that displays its structural underpinnings, yet the image shows the clearest outline of the sedan - in contrast to other mules that were heavily fortified.
Apparently each subsequent mule will sport a camouflage, which showcases the mechanicals underneath the body, as the advanced lightweight aluminium construction is one of the key selling points for Jaguar.
The Jaguar XE will see the automaker return to the highly profitable and expanding global market for compact premium cars - since the demise of the X-Type - currently dominated by German offerings like the 3 Series, the C-Class and the A4 by BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi respectively.
The XE is based on a new rear and all-wheel-drive aluminium architecture to be powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre version of the company's new 'Ingenium' range of power units.
