Initialised in 2012, the 'Caltex PAssion for Kids' programme returns with a new two-day residential camp for students from less privileged backgrounds.
Through its continued partnership with the People's Association (PA), Caltex aims to equip financially disadvantaged students with essential life skills, along with continuing to support Singapore's continued focus on education as the key to social mobility and an important social leveller.
Through the programme, Caltex aims to facilitate a potential paradigm shift in the way these students approach their studies and life, by inspiring them to achieve their dreams.
This year, the programme aims to extend its community outreach efforts to about 150 students from less privileged background, from 11 to 14-years of age, from PA's 8 T-Net Club (Teens Network Club) as well as students under the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS).
Also, the programme this year introduces an overnight element, with students participating in a residential camp at the National Community Leadership Institute (NACLI) campus. A group of 20 Trainers from PA will motivate students through positive reinforcement, focusing on the 3Cs of Life - Choices, Changes and Chances.
The camp will consist of several workshops and team building activities, including obstacle courses, station games, trekking and camp fire presentations.
In addition participants from last year's programme will be returning to share their experiences and offer mentorship to this year's beneficiaries. The 2014 programme will end with a graduation ceremony to be held on the 22nd of June where the participating students are encouraged to highlight their achievements and learnings.
