Caltex's signature community outreach programme, Caltex Fuel Your School - Tech Jam, returns on 26 June 2020 to offer students an accessible platform to hone their skills in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
Jointly organised with the Science Centre Singapore for the fourth consecutive year, this programme is designed for students between 10 and 15 years old to gain an introduction to Mixed Reality and try their hand at virtual creations.
The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a digital revolution in education and placed more emphasis on integrating educational technology into students' development.
Recognising the importance of home-based learning as an essential medium to encourage self-driven learning, Chevron's partnership with Science Centre Singapore comes as an effort to interest and engage students in emerging STEM technologies.
Complementing home learning initiatives, this year's programme has been specially designed to equip participants with a variety of tools and guided webinars to be fully immersed into the world of Mixed Reality. Activities include learning about Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), making their own VR viewers, and creating AR content they can access on mobile phones. Starting Friday, 26 June 2020, Science Centre Singapore's I Am A Young Scientist Badge programme online scheme will be hosted for free here.
To earn the new 'I Am A Young Mixed Reality (MR) Creator' badge and certificate of completion, students need to try their hand at 15 featured Mixed Reality activities.
Upon completion, students will unlock a special project, where they will be given the opportunity to create an AR experience with a theme on renewable energy. Successful participants will receive a complimentary year-long subscription to I Am A Young Scientist programme.
Caltex Fuel Your School - Tech Jam 2020 is part of Chevron's overall support for education globally. In Singapore, it is a fuel-to-sponsorship programme that taps on support from the local motoring community. For every fuel transaction made using the CaltexGO mobile application at service stations nationwide from 26 June to 26 July 2020, Caltex will contribute $3 to the fund, capped at $60,000. Caltex employees will also be engaged as volunteers to help grade assignments for I Am A Young MR Creator, working together with Science Centre Singapore.
