At Porsche's Weissach R&D Centre lies its latest race car. This is not just any race car, but one that bears the aspiration of the carmaker and hopes of its fans to reclaim its throne at endurance racing - more significantly at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it held a record 16 wins, which is still unbeaten by any other marques.

In comparison, sister marque Audi has claimed several victories in recent years, and looks all strong in second place with 11 wins.

The new racer has just completed its first run at the test track, several weeks ahead of the scheduled test run.

In mid-2011 Porsche announced its decision to compete for top honour at the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with a factory team, and has since expanded its motorsports division with a new administrative building and a workshop. It has also engaged a 200-man work force for the design, assembly and deployment of the new racer.

Keeping to its tradition, Porsche will continue to apply new technologies learnt from its motorsports expeditions to its road-going models. And as highlighted by Matthias Muller, Chairman of Executive Board, Porsche AG, "After all, there's a race car in every Porsche."
