Is a road-going coupe crossover really cut out to take on more than 2,400km of Nevada and California’s deserts? BMW seems to think so.
BMW of North America has announced that it will be fielding the new BMW X2, which only made its world premiere just a week ago, in the 2023 Rebelle Rally. The new coupe crossover will be competing in the competition’s ‘X-Cross’ class, driven and navigated along by veteran Rebelle Rally competitors Rebecca Donaghe and Sedona Blinson.
Aiding the car along are modifications that include Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tyres, a Thule Caprock roof platform, off-road recovery gear and accessories by Smittybilt, as well as a host of BMW off-road recover gear and accessories, and two straps from BMW M Performance. The BMW X2 will also get custom underbody protection, as well as a custom spare tyre carrier built into its cargo area - we can’t help but think the car is quite the looker decked out with this much kit.
Will these be enough to see the BMW X2 to the end of the rally? Keep track of its progress, as well as the rest of its competition, via the Rebelle Rally live site here.
