The new Golf R is equipped with an extensive package of customised and exclusive features.
Along with specially designed bumpers, side sills and 18-inch alloy wheels, the car can also be visually distinguished as an impressive sports model by details such as matt chrome door mirror caps, dark red LED rear lights as well as a two-branch exhaust system with quadruple tailpipes.
Inside, the Golf R underlines its position as the flagship of the model range with sports seats in Vienna leather upholstery, a leather trimmed three-spoke sport steering wheel, blue ambience lighting, and an eight-inch touchscreen multimedia system with navigation.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged powerplant under the hood of the new Golf R produces 280bhp and 380Nm of torque, which is 24bhp stronger but more than 15 percent more fuel efficient than in the previous model.

Delivering pure dynamic performance are a newly configured sport suspension system (body height lowered by 20mm and 5mm as compared to the regular Golf and Golf GTI respectively), the new progressive steering system and 'ESC Sport' - which can now be fully deactivated for track driving.
Also standard is the enhanced dynamic chassis control (DCC) system with driving profile selector that features a new Race mode.
Like all three previous Golf R models, the new model also transfers its turbocharged engine power to the road via a permanent all-wheel drive system - the latest version of the 4MOTION system with a fifth generation Halex coupling that is capable of transferring near 100 percent of torque to the rear wheels when the situation calls for it.
At press time, the launch price of the all new Golf R is $236,300 (inclusive of COE).

The engine has undergone a development programme similar to a motorsport engine's, featuring a larger turbocharger and a lower compression ratio as well as a dual fuel injection system and a two-stage valve lift for the exhaust.

The Golf R completes the century sprint in just five seconds flat, on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Despite the car's exceptionally agile driving performance and extra power, fuel consumption has been reduced from 8.4 to 7.1L/100km. CO2 emissions were also improved from 195 to 164g/km.
