Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed the first images of the interior of the new Transporter.
The van is set to get features including a keyless engine start button, located next to its 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 13-inch infotainment display. Variants equipped with an automatic gearbox will also get a repositioned gear selector, which Volkswagen states allows the Transporter to offer more legroom.
Also new for the cabin is the discontinuation of the handbrake lever in favour of operation via a switch located on the centre of the dash panel. The Volkswagen Transporter is also set to get large cup holders at the front of its centre console, and additional cup holders and storage compartments will be offered in the upper section of its dash panel.
The new Transporter is set to offer a load compartment space between 5,800 and 9,000 litres depending on the selected wheelbase length and roof height, allowing it to swallow up to three Euro pallets. A range of charging points (ranging from USB-A, USB-C and 12V sockets on top of a 230V socket) will be provided so service providers, couriers and emergency services have the power they need to operate equipment, while Transporters equipped with electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains can be equipped with two additional sockets in the van's D-pillars, which van offer a total output of 2,300W allowing equipment from laptops to circular saws to be powered.
