Audi has pulled the wraps off its 2016 R8 before its stipulated debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The new design is clearly an evolution of the previous version, but with cleaner and sharper lines running across its body, as well as a slightly revised proportion.
The new supercar will be built around a new chassis, which is made of aluminium and carbon fibre. This combination helps save up to 50kg over its predecessor. Propelling the new car is a 5.2-litre V10, which will come in two forms - a 532bhp standard version and a V10 Plus with 610bhp and 560Nm of torque. The latter claims a 3.2-second century sprint timing and a top speed of 330km/h. More importantly, these figures match those from its 'more premium' cousin - the Lamborghini Huracan.
The focus, however, will not be all on performance, as the R8's seven-speed S-tronic gearbox will now feature a coasting function, which kicks in when the driver lifts off the gas pedal at speeds of above 55km/h. The gearbox will also boast other features, such as Launch Control, manual paddle shift mode and three automatic modes (Comfort, Auto, Dynamic).
