Volvo has updated its C40 Recharge and all-electric XC40 Recharge models.
The big headline for the new models is the fact that there are now two rear-wheel drive variants available, marking the first time Volvo has offered a product with rear-wheel drive in 25 years.
The move by Volvo mirrors the recent updates to the Polestar 2, which also sits atop the Compact Modular Architecture that underpins the C40 and XC40.
The updated range for both Volvo models now starts with a 235bhp rear-wheel drive variant, which will replace the outgoing 228bhp single-motor front-wheel drive variant.
This variant will utilise the same 69kWh battery, however, improved cooling efficiency mean the XC40 Recharge will now offer a WLTP range of 460km, as opposed to the 425km range of the outgoing model.
The C40 Recharge meanwhile, will now come with a WLTP range of 476km. This model will support charging at speeds of up to 135kW via a direct current source.
Those that want more range will be able to opt for the rear-wheel drive variant with a larger 82kWh battery, which will bring the range to a WLTP 515km and 533km for the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge respectively.
This variant will offer a total output of 248bhp. This variant will support charging at speeds of up to 200kW via a direct current source.
The all-wheel drive variant for both the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge is also being offered. The updated version of this variant will now utilise a 245bhp electric motor at the rear axle, alongside a 157bhp electric motor at the front axle.
This new configuration will come powered by an 82kWh battery pack, which also gets improvements to its cooling efficiency, which means the XC40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD can now offer a WLTP range of 500km, while the C40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD will offer a WLTP range of 507km.
