The Volkswagen ID. family is now set to get another sustainability bump, thanks to the use of more sustainable materials in their cabins.
Through 2023, the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.7 will receive innovations that were employed in the ID. Buzz. These will include the use of Seaqual yearn made from 10% collected marine debris and 90% recycled Polyethersulfone plastic. Volkswagen states that the CO2 emissions from production of these material is almost one third lower than for conventional cover materials.
It further assures that the reused materials will continue to offer both the same look and feel, as well as the durability and longevity of conventional materials.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will also no longer utilise chrome trim pieces on its doors, instrument panel, and steering wheel clip, as the production of chrome harms the environment. In its place, a liquid paint will be used, offering a chrome look that also has a bio-based binder.
