Volkswagen has revealed the first images of the ID.7 decked out in a swanky multi-colour and interactive camouflage system.

Volkswagen has revealed the first details of the ID.7, the latest addition to Volkswagen's growing ID. all-electric family that already includes the ID.3 and ID.4.

Set to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas between 5 to 8 January 2023, the new flagship electric sedan, as with the rest of the current ID. family, continues to be based off the firm's modular electric drive matrix.

Volkswagen states the car will make its premiere at CES decked out with a smart camouflage, which you'll notice is present in the pictures above. The cover utilises a unique technology alongside a multi-layered paintwork to create light effects on parts of the vehicle.

This feature, Volkswagen also states, is interactive, although exactly how so is not yet specified beyond the fact that up to 22 portions of the exterior car can be controlled independently. The camouflage surface is also able to visualise the rhythm of whatever is being played by its sound system by illuminating individual areas.

Get over the swanky skin and the cabin of the ID.7 will impress in equal measure, thanks to what Volkswagen states will be a new display concept, led by an augmented reality head-up display and a 15-inch screen. The car is additionally said to be smart enough to cool the interior in hot days once it detects the driver approaching, while new smart air vents will distribute fresh air throughout the vehicle as quickly as possible.

No drivetrain details have yet been officially announced for the Volkswagen ID.7, although the firm does state that the vehicle's aerodynamic profile will allow a range the comes close to 700km.
