For the horsepower i wouldn't say i dont like, but if its the same as previous edition @ 118 will be better.

Sunny WRX

Review

Sunny owner for 4 yrs. 1.6 EX auto car in stock condition. Not a heavy footer. Pumps Octane 95, with the occasional 98/V-Power. Standing at over 1.8m tall, with family members mostly giants as well.

When 1st running in of engine back then, FC's about 8km+. Now, it's no far better, standing at 9km+ at most. My car has been labelled as a Sunny-WRX by my friends in jest.

In terms of power, there's a 2 second lag after I floored the accelerator. Meaning to say after you floor the pedal, the car is still in its original position for 2 seconds, afterwhich then it starts to actually move (comments by my dear wife to her amusement). Perhaps it's due to its CVT. Thus, I wouldn't suggest you try beat the traffic light in this car, unless you want to show your wide grin to the TP camera.

After you shifted back the driver seat to the extreme, rear passenger legroom space's is comparable to an airline's economy class seating. Not advisable for family long-trips to KL for example.

In reliability is where Sunny really shines. This car has not given me any problems and has been faithfully serving me all these years.

Boot space is very big indeed, can easily swallow in luggages or heaps of grocery/shopping bags.

In summary, if you're looking for a made-in-japan car to commute from point A to point B, or you intend to get a OPC, or perhaps you're on the park-and-ride scheme, then Sunny's a practical possibility for you.

Actully, the car doesn't look too bad. Same for interior. Everybody complaining about car for its ride. Ride very bumpy. So, I have nothing to say.

Decent FC if it is manual
consumer review icon image
Review

This car has decent handling in stock form for its generation and class (compared to Vios, City, Corolla). However not sure if the recent complaints caused by the change of tires used or the hardened tires used due to old car stocks.

The auto somewhat has too high gearing that makes drives 100kmh in about 3k rpm.

Overall is allright, but with age the fuel consumption decreases, so it is good to use carbon cleaner often to maintain performance and FC.

With the auto and four adults and luggage still manages to hit 180kmh plus in NSH.

The place where I lived sometimes get rather congested... and my kids' school is always jammed with cars... maybe that is part of the reason... of course, I am not looking at a small cc car like mine to have such bad FC.

I have read a lot of comments and also heard from alot of my friend... none of which encourages me to move on to any Nissan cars. And when I first bought my Nissan Sunny, everyone was like totally shocked. Until I found out why... the hard way.

Anyway, I am holding on till it reaches its 10 years... and allowing me to save more to pay the down deposit. :)

Thanks for your constructive and tactful approach.

Not to make this into a flame war or such. DG, u use the car only to fetch the kids to and from school, which means short distance, city driving. can get 8-9 km/l VERY GOOD already! Any car U care to mention will also post lousier than "normal" FC, because of your driving profile.

And erm, you own a car, though some ppl owe the bank lots for the car.

Congrats on moving onto Audi soon. I will bet anything with u that your FC will be lower than most other drivers of the same car, if your usage pattern remains the same.

Cheers!

I do not know where the hell people got the idea that old cars must be less oil efficient. And to answer your question. Nope. This is not my first time to own a car. I owe the car when it was only 2.5 years old. Yes, it is a 2nd hand car. And accident free and low mileage.

It was already bleeding oil when I first owe it. It is not as oil efficient as you say... The way you answer makes you sound as if you are car dealer.

And please don't make unnecessary guesses... I am switiching to Audi soon. And thanks for your tasteless reply in trying to cover up for Nissan inefficiencies. People who own a Nissan knows that it is bleeding oil... except you...

Every Car that managed to crawl till 8 years old is considered very reliable. Of course, with a 8 years old engine, fuel consumption will become very high. Is this the 1st time u actually own a car?

I have personally driven a korea car and the entire engine dies on the 6th year and i bought a older Sunny Ex Manual after that. Fuel consumption was quite good. Fuel consumption also depends on manual and auto version. Hope this will wake up yr idea abt fuel consumption on old engine. Haiz.....

14.5km/L at the display page? It's not TRUE
consumer review icon image
Review

I am surprised to see that the petrol consumption is displayed as 14.5km/L. My Nissan Sunny; 1498cc (abt 8 years old) is already making me bleed on the oil consumption. Talking about old cars? We only used it to fetch the kids to and fro school. And my kids are only about 3 km away from home. I estimated that it is taking about 8-9km/L.

I checked with my friends... none of them ever claimed that it has ever hit up to 14.5km/L. Everybody who has driven Nissan are switching to another brand... I think the manufacturer needs to wake up from their dreams and do something about the engine.

Time to Scrap this Car

Mymy, Nissan must come to their senses and redesign the sunny or totally remove it.

I first drove this car when it was in 1999 and more than 10 years later, this model still hasn't evolved much. All other car brands have better designs or newer technology.

I recently climbed back into one Sunny (an uncle's) after not driving it for 10 years and wow, the feel hasn't changed! Feels like a dinosaur still. Well, if I have one good thing to say, it will be that this car is fantastic in terms of consistency, because it has not evolvedmuch over the years.

Th sunny is quite powerful if u can control the manual car properly and the acceleration is actually quite good. But when it comes to sharp turns, beware, this car understeers (get out of the driving line).

Its FC is crap basically. It is a petrol guzzler when u hit the 3rd year with it. Parts are not cheap (since its Japan made).

No matter how u 'zeng' the car, it still looks outdated.

It is a below average car that is due for a desgin and marketing overhaul. A forgotten car since the influx of Teana, Murano, Latio and the coming March (looks damn cute).

Buy Lancer instead
consumer review icon image
Review

If were to choose between this car and Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi, I would choose the latter, for various reasons.

Lancer is nicer, sportier and more powerful than sunny. The handling is also better and most importantly, it is cheaper!

This sunny takes more petrol than Lancer maybe unless the manual version. And, the steering is really heavy. too heavy.

The only good thing that it has that lancer do not is probably the auto fold side mirrors however, it is missing the back head rest in some submodels.

Therefore, lancer is a better choice.

Not as good as Vios & Altis

Drove my relative's Sunny for a few days last week. It was 3-years old, and has clocked almost 100,000km.

Overall, found it not a very good drive. Vios and Altis are better in all aspects other than handling.

Although this is a good reliable budget car to own, it is expensive to run due to its high fuel consumption. I would rather look elsewhere for a car with better fuel consumption even though it is abit more expensive,
