Looks like that space mission isn't the only thing aiming for the sky.
This first COE bidding session for the month of April marks the third time that premiums have risen across all private car categories. The recent launch of the Tesla Model Y L could have some part to do with this. Although we suspect the conclusion of our own Beyond Motion event also ought to take some credit for the increased number of bids received across categories A, B and E this session compared to the last.

Cat A COE - Climbing up for four consecutive sessions
Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, climbed this session by $6,110 (5.5%) to reach $118,000. Bear in mind that this latest climb comes on the back of three previous sessions where premiums for the category have seen repeated upward movement.
The current premium now stands at 10.5% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of bids submitted exceeded the number of successful bids this round by 101%, far higher than the 12-month average of 54% for the category.
Cat B COE - Also making gains
Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, jumped this session by a total of $5,432 (4.7%) to reach $121,000. As with Cat A, this latest climb for this category also comes on the back of some significant jumps in premiums seen in the previous sessions.
This latest climb means the current premium for the category is now 0.3% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 43%, on par with the 12-month average of 45% for the category.
Cat C COE - Also going strong
Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, climbed this session by $2,001 (2.6%) to close at $80,001. The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 83%, higher than the 12-month average for this category of 49%.
Cat E COE - You can see where this is going
Premiums for Cat E, the open category, also climbed this session. This session saw premiums for the category climb by $2,882 (2.4%), bringing the final premium for the category to $121,001.
The current premium for the category is now 0.7% below the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 94%, higher than the 12-month average figure for the category of 84%.
Prevailing Quota Premium
The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal, and is computed from the moving average of the previous three months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their vehicles will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective categories.
