BYD Seal 6 - Owner's Review (Pros & Cons)
After spending some proper time with the Seal 6, here's my honest take.
What I like
1. More than meets the eye
On paper it may look modest, but in real-world use, the car pleasantly surprises.
2. Space is genuinely good
Cabin and cargo space are more than sufficient for the average Singaporean family. Weekly grocery runs fit comfortably without playing Tetris.
3. Very comfortable drive
The soft suspension makes city driving effortless, which is exactly what you want in Singapore traffic. Daily commutes feel relaxed rather than tiring.
4. Interior punches above its price
The cabin feels more premium than expected at this price point. Materials and overall build quality feel solid and well thought out.
5. Quiet cabin
It's noticeably quieter than an ICE car. Road noise is well controlled, which adds to the overall sense of calm.
6. Relaxing overall driving experience
This is not a car that stresses you out. It's smooth, predictable, and easy to live with.
7. Practical real-world range
The range is more than sufficient for about a week of typical Singapore driving, without range anxiety.
What could be better
1. No blind spot monitoring
This is a surprising omission and, frankly, something that should be standard at this point.
2. Steering feels light at highway speeds
The steering can feel a little too light for those who prefer more feedback. I got used to it fairly quickly (coming from a 1 series), and Sports mode helps, but it may not suit everyone.
3. Limited exterior colour options
The choices are a bit restrictive. A silver option would have been a welcome addition.
Final thoughts
If you're looking for a comfortable, quiet, and easygoing everyday car for Singapore, the Seal 6 is genuinely a fantastic option worth considering.
For those who say, "But the power is insufficient," I'd ask an honest question: do you really need more power? If you're commuting within Singapore more than 90% of the time, the performance on offer is more than adequate for daily use.
Of course, if your idea of driving pleasure is rushing to the next traffic light, only for everyone else and the cyclist to calmly pull up beside you two seconds later, then this probably isn't the car for you.
For everyone else, the Seal 6 makes a very strong case as a sensible, comfortable, and surprisingly refined daily driver.... Read More
Spacious, comfortable and value for money
I chanced upon the Seal 6 having read and watched great reviews especially in Malaysia. The Seal 6 is huge in size. It really is the biggest C segment saloon car and is borderline a D segment size. Wheelbase is close to a Camry. Interior space is also massive.
Price wise is definitely C segment with competitors like the Mazda 3, Honda Civic and Toyota Altis. Not sure why reviews commonly say it is rather slow. I previously drove an ICE car with 0-100 time of 8.5 seconds. While on paper the Seal 6 is 10.9 seconds, it feels much faster and overtaking is a lot easier than my previous ICE car. The instant torque is a huge thing and city driving is very easy. Overall, lots of interior space, good technology for its price and great driveability.... Read More
